AskMecha: Background Check Software? So my overzealous coworker wants to do background checks on the people she's considering hiring to help with the summer camp. Anyone have any idea how to go about this or (cheap/free) software to recommend? Googling for software is daunting.
These days that is not "overzealous". It's not so much to keep the kids safe as it is to protect the organizers from being sued for lack of diligence or whatever.

I was an adult sponsor for my church's kid retreat this weekend. I was added late after the original sponsor couldn't do it, so my background check wasn't there. The church camp told me I would have to leave the camp that night and couldn't return for programs unless they got my background check (which was emailed by someone from our church so I was allowed to stay). That sort of thing is pretty standard for any situation with adults working with kids nowadays.

As for how to do it? Sorry, can't help ya there.
