SwapTree invite? Anyone have any idea how I can get an invite to SwapTree? I signed up for one, but I want it NOW!
I dunno, but I signed up for one, too :-D

How would you know? You're not a member.

But a friend of mine is! And he let me log in and poke around. AWESOME I TELL YOU!

I can think of more than a few private sites that'll let you in if you throw some money at 'em.

Also, I want to know more about these algorithms.

If he's such a good friend, he should send both of us invites.

Why did i just sign up for that? i will probably never use it.
WILL PEOPLE NEVER STOP ABUSE OF THE WORD AWESOME?

From what I can tell, there's no way to send invites if you're in the beta. Only they can give them out.

I'm the friend with the membership. If I could send out invites, I would... but alas, I cannot. Swaptree is quite awesome though.

AWESOME!

So let's say that I used some kind of Web 2.0 pitch to collect a bunch of email addresses. How would I go about selling said addresses, and how much money could I expect to receive? I mean, that's a valuable list, as these kinds of lists go, right? (I don't mean to imply that that's what these folks are doing--I'm just curious.)
posted by box 29 March | 15:36
@box: I'll give you $40 for said list.
posted by bjork24 29 March | 15:52
Yeah, but what will you trade me for it?

This abuse is AWESOME!

(Just so it's perfectly clear--I feel confident that Swaptree is a real site, and I've seen nitsuj and bjork24's names around Mefi for quite a while, and think well of both of 'em.)

In fact, I think that Swaptree is the greatest site with -tree at the end of its name since since that one with the jam-band torrents. (Maybe public praise will speed that invite on its way.)

Well, we had a signup on metachat from a swaptree address, so maybe those invites are on the way.

Just to see who is still paying attention... we will send Swaptree beta invitations to the first four MetaChat users who send an email to: MetaChat (at) swaptree (dot) com.

We're still tweaking a bunch of stuff on the site so we're keeping a tight reign on the number of users in our private beta, but we can always use a few more people with lots of books, CDs, DVDs and video games...

hmm, does this mean i get an extra for the one i send normally?
posted by ethylene 30 March | 10:10
Yippee, I just got an invite! It doesn't seem to be working, though, so maybe I'll try again later.

(on preview: eth, were you able to sign in?)

Haven't gotten an invite.
Much switch to empty headed laptop and begin the long and painful reinformationing process.
posted by ethylene 30 March | 10:20
They just sent me an invite. Thank you, mystery swaptree person. i hope our pimping of you will serve us both well.

I'd just like to plug lala for the cd swapping thing. You pay $1.75 for every cd you receive (postage and handling) and you earn the right to receive cds by shipping cds. I have had nothing but good experiences with it. Managed to finally hear a lot of cds I thought I was interested in. Managed to unload some stuff I'll never listen to again. Managed to get a couple things (Congo Norvell, I'm looking at you!) I have never been able to find for sale.

(Not that I'm not sure swaptree will be awesome, just offering alternatives is all)
