Holy crap. Does anyone really eat that much beef? Maybe it's the influence of my long-ago vegetarian past, but to me, beef is something you eat 2 or 3 times a month.
When I was a kid, we raised most of our own beef. Seven beef meals a week would not have been unusual, if you factored in the occasional roast beef/corned beef sandwich at lunch. Nowadays, the only time I eat it is when I'm visiting my folks.
We actually got fancy with the brisket. we cooked it in french onion soup mix, ketchup, worsetchire, a little miced garlic and a pint of guiness. Came out great.
I eat beef maybe once, twice a month myself. That means that if this is an average, someone else is eating my three ounces a day for about 24 days a month...
When I was a kid in Australia, breakfast was usually fried mince (ground beef) on toast with an egg on top, and steak for dinner. Beef was plentiful and cheap then. When I was a newborn my mother used to give me a hunk of steak to suck on.
