mothers ate more than seven beef meals a week

Holy crap. Does anyone really eat that much beef? Maybe it's the influence of my long-ago vegetarian past, but to me, beef is something you eat 2 or 3 times a month.

mats, looks like Americans consume an average of 67 pounds/year, or about 3 ounces a day. That's a lot of cow!

When I was a kid, we raised most of our own beef. Seven beef meals a week would not have been unusual, if you factored in the occasional roast beef/corned beef sandwich at lunch. Nowadays, the only time I eat it is when I'm visiting my folks.

I actually ate two beef meals today. Half a roast-beef-and-bacon sub, and then some leftover brisket.

I guess things are different here in the Pacific Northwest. Or maybe I'm just an elitist NPR-listening wimpazoid.

Well, we did have that BSE thing awhile back. That kinda put the Dick's Deluxe in a new light.

We actually got fancy with the brisket. we cooked it in french onion soup mix, ketchup, worsetchire, a little miced garlic and a pint of guiness. Came out great.

Did you bake it, boil it or use the crock pot? I usually do my brisket in the crock pot... It's been my favorite meat since I was a kid.

I eat beef maybe once, twice a month myself. That means that if this is an average, someone else is eating my three ounces a day for about 24 days a month...

we roasted it in the oven.

When I was a kid in Australia, breakfast was usually fried mince (ground beef) on toast with an egg on top, and steak for dinner. Beef was plentiful and cheap then. When I was a newborn my mother used to give me a hunk of steak to suck on.

Three times every two weeks is about what I eat beef-wise. Chicken is eaten more frequently and we have pork about once a week (mmmmm, bacon).

I don't know how much beef mum at while pregnant, but my brothers didn't have any problems with procreation.
