Has GMail been down all day for everybody? Or is it just me? →[More:]Since about 7:15AM, on two different PCs, one at home, one at work, I've been getting a google page with this text when I try to login:

"We're sorry, but Gmail is temporarily unavailable. We're currently working to fix the problem -- please try logging in to your account in a few minutes."

Ctrl-F5, deleting my cookies, neither worked. Weird. Oh the, message above is entitled "Server Error" so I'm wondering if there's a DNS issue here.

About an hour ago, I got a message several times that I needed to try again in a few minutes, and five minutes later, it was back to normal.

Ah, found this nice and vague and buried in a corner box on the gmail support page:

We are aware of a problem affecting a subset of our users. Our
engineers are currently working to find a solution. We expect to have
a fix as soon as we can. We appreciate your patience, and we
apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

They need to change that error message, as "try again in a few minutes" is a load of crap.

Reading through various help threads some people were down for days in previous outages. Fuckaroo. I know it's a beta, but this is strictly bush league.

I don't know if this is somehow related, but I access my Gmail through POP3 and this evening I am being spammed to all buggery - much, much worse than I have been in months.

A friend sent me this link to a new Gmail Alerts LJ community. Not any real info there beyond "We're working on it," though. My accounts were down for a few hours but are now restored, thankfully.
