mmm. air conditioning [More:]

It seems weird having the AC on this early, but damn it feels good after laying blocks in the sun all day. I forgot my damn sunblock this morning. I managed to cover my neck with a handkerchief by putting part of it on my head, letting the rest drape over my neck like a cape and then putting my straw hat back on, and the hat mostly protected my face... but the tops of my arms are scorched. I swear to Zod that my stepfather can stay out in the sun all day without burning at all, I can burn in twenty minutes in the middle of the day. Bleh.

Anyway, is there anything that feels as good as the air conditioner blasting you with COLD air after being in the hot sun? No there is not. And the cold air conditioned air has a special smell about it. Lovely. Unlike the nasty gross heater smell that winter gives you.

There are little red and black salamanders (like these) where we are working. It takes all my willpower not to bring them home with me.
If you take aspirin or ibuprofen now you will be much, much happier tomorrow. It's weird but it works.

Yeah, I need to take pictures of these guys at some point. They are living in this little enclosed box with an outdoor spigot to hook a waterhose up to. It leaks some when the hose is turned on and so it is nice and damp and cool in there. Plus there are some old rags piled in there to keep it from freezing, which probably insulates them from cold and heat both. They might end up getting squished as that house is going to be torn down in the future but they'll probably get the heck out of dodge and find themselves a new home. I used to see some skinks here in my yard but I know that Bear ate at least two of them, so... maybe not now. I am hoping that more lizards and such will move in as I have turned a lot of what used to be lawn into a heavily mulched wilderness of bamboo, trees, shrubs, grasses, groundcovers and everything else imaginable. I have not seen any garden snakes yet this spring but I am sure they are out and about.

I took some ibuprofen as soon as I got home. More for my aching back than the burned arms though.

I've been in hot humid Thailand for the past week. Nothing was better than getting back to my room and the aircon set to 19c. Nothing. My head is sunburn.

Yesterday was one of those heat-on-during-the-night, AC-on-during-the-day days. It was nice enough to open the windows, but I always feel weird opening the windows of my first-floor apartment. I tend to forget they're open and then I might as well put up a neon sign inviting the burglars and anal rapists in.
