Quick AskMeCha for the New Yorkers in the house: I know Tiffany's flagship store is on Fifth Ave.; is the Madison Ave. location also a retail location, or is it just administrative/office space?[More:]An essay I'm editing refers to a performance art piece that took place "in front of Tiffany & Co. on Madison Ave." I'm assuming that the author actually means Fifth Ave., but I just wanted to double-check with some NYBunnies before I make the change. (I can't get on to the Tiffany website to check, for some strange reason.)
I checked the website; only one NYC location listed, and that's the one on 5th Ave. I don't believe there's another store location.

Great, thanks for checking! Just wanted to make sure my rudimentary knowledge of fine shopping in Manhattan wasn't even more rudimentary than I thought.

Why couldn't the author be referring to the admin offices?

I'm pretty sure Tiffany's offices are located in the Fifth Ave building- it's certainly large enough. I could be wrong, though.

FlamingBore: because the author talks about the artist's performance in terms of interacting with shoppers to confront issues of commerce, economic class, etc. So as a gesture, the piece would carry infinitely more weight in front of the actual store (with all its recognizability), rather than the (possibly more generic, anonymous) corporate offices (if they are, indeed, in separate locations).

Tiffany used to have locations on Madison Ave. in the 19th century, but abandoned them when it moved to the present building.

Louis Comfort Tiffany used to have a mansion at the corner of Madison & 72nd, but it was demolished decades ago.

Ah, here we are:
Tiffany & Co. Celebrates Completion of Floor Renovation in New York Flagship Store

Tiffany began exploring options to improve the shopping experience for its customers in 1999 when it purchased the building. [i.e. on Fifth Avenue] To provide expansion space, Tiffany's executive offices, along with other operations, have been relocated to 600 Madison Avenue where Tiffany now occupies ten floors for merchandising, marketing, and administrative purposes.

So, technically, the back offices are located in 600 Madison Ave. If they meant the store, though, it's still Fifth Ave.
