Will you help me tweak/play this game? [More:]It's a game that uses the Thesaurus in Microsoft Word. The concept is pretty easy, but the challenge may prove otherwise. Basically, if I give you the challenge "dog -> bug (par 4)", you have to use the synonyms and the "Look up" button to get from word A to word B in the least amount of moves. So for this example the answer would be "dog > plague > disease > bug", where every ">" is a hit of the "Look up" button. So, sorta like golf, a 3 here would be a birdie, a 4 a par, and anything over 4 here would be a bogey, double bogey, etc. For these purposes here, only choose from the first 5 choices (so it doesn't get too difficult).

Also, maybe there's a better usage than Word. I tried to find a web page that would work better, but couldn't. The reason the Word Thesaurus works so well is that it gives a limited amount of synonyms. I guess ideally this would be some thing to create in Flash or whatever. This seems like it'd be fun, but I've never really tried it with anyone.

I hope this all makes sense...
So try "use > coach", par 4.

I'm not sure if I'm doing this right, but

build > cadaver, par 5.

smoke > smolder > seethe > bubble

is that right?

fashion > mode > means > income > profits

almost, puke & cry: ...seethe > foam > bubbles

looks like that's what Hugh meant, but stick to synonyms, not the meanings.

And dano's right, not by the rules of the game, but just because.

Oh, I mighta messed up with the meanings/synonyms. No meanings = tougher to make a stumper.

"Make a stumper" is something I might have called going to the bathroom when I was a tot.

Set > Leader / Par 6

well it should be
Grace
charm
lure
Red herring

but while lure is listed as a Syn for Red Herring, Red Herring is NOT listed as a syn for lure

I'm not getting that one edge. You're only using the first 5 choices, right?

Despite inventing the game, I sure suck at it.
posted by Hellbient 21 March | 16:47
Yup, I can't get that one either.
