Wow -- neat story, beautiful artifact.

A quick search brings up a museum site on the Wreck of the Ethie, a National Geographic piece on Newfoundlands (they say his name was Tang), this poem, and a kids' fiction book. I'd never heard this story before - thanks.

It should. When I was at the Seaport we did an exhibit called "Sea Dogs," and this wouldv'e been a perfect item to show. Guess we missed the boat on that one...
