15 March 2007

I am incredibly brilliant. I did this www.tagged.com thing, because someone invited me to it.. then I accidentally sent an invitation to ALL 650 PEOPLE IN MY CONTACTS LIST![More:]
and THEN, when I emailed all my contacts to apologise, Gmail took the email and sent it fine (took 2 sends) but now says I can't send any more email for 24 hours.

Getting emails from folk I haven't spoken to in a while, but there are a few people who would not take an email from me well in the contacts list, so I hope they don't do anything mean.
SPAMMER! BURN HER! BURN HER! BURN HER!!!

I almost did that last night with some movie website my sister sent me. Unfortunately, I had done it once before with some other site. But at least I was more careful this time.

BtGoG, at least you didn't mistakenly send a drunken pleading sappy 'oh please, for the love of god take me back' (intended-to-be-private) email to an x girlfriend out as a bulletin to all your MySpace contacts... which is exactly what my friend Frye managed to do last week. mind you we gave him *no end* of hell about it on the cruise last night.

he bore it with stoic good humour, as we figured he might. that kid astonishes me.

There seem to be some benefits, I'm getting lots of friend signups, and a good lot of emails from people back in the US. Hopefully I won't get any blacklistings and didn't piss anybody off too much.

Most people have done something like this, Grace, and as these things go, this wasn't so bad. One of the worst situations I've ever seen was when a woman sales rep for a company I worked with got into an e-mail exchange via her company e-mail account, with her soon-to-be ex-husband, and she somehow cc'd her whole group's list (about 200 people, including the entire executive structure). They started about 10:00 at night, both clearly upset and probably intoxicated, and the whole thing kind of wound down over the next several hours. He accused her of sleeping with her boss, she denied it but said her boss (another woman) had a bigger d**k than he had, and it went right downhill from there, in terms of both content and spelling/punctuation. There were about 20 messages in the exchange, and neither of 'em came out looking like a candidate for the high road. I got a pager message about 3:00 in the morning, from the CEO who was traveling in Europe, to intervene on the mail server, but about half of the people, including her boss and several people higher up in her responsibility chain had already sync'd local copies of their mail store, so there was no putting the horse back in the barn.

All I'm saying is, it could've been a lot worse.

Almost everyone has done this.

Which is why I replied with "Yes, you are my friend but what in the bluest of tarnations exactly is it and do I really need another login?" before signing up, because I figured you'd probably been spammed or hijacked. ;) Good luck.
