My golden boy! →[More:]Turns out the critter in my gut was a boy named Charlie. He's hypnotically cute and several different varieties of awesome. Right now he's quite jaundiced, which makes him look like an Oscar. Every time someone hands him to me, I thank the Academy. His big sister has been absolutely amazing--so helpful and loving that it makes me tear up constantly. And mr. rossi has been waiting on me hand and foot. I couldn't ask for more.

Just wanted to check in and give you all an update. I haven't had a chance to read back over the past several days, so I hope all is well with everyone else.

I hope his name is Charles. My parents, for some unknown reason, gave me the *official* name of Danny. So all of my official documents, transcripts, mortgages, birth certificate (the one that started it, etc.) have "Danny" as my name.

I lost count long ago of the number of times some bureaucrat looked up and told me to put my *real* name on this or that form, and my having to explain that it IS my real name.

The only reason I was given, and I asked more than once, was that "it seemed like a good idea at the time."

Other than that, many congratulations to all of you, not the least of which, Charlie!

Ah, Wikipedia has my answer:

Neonatal jaundice is usually harmless: this condition is often seen in infants around the second day after birth, lasting until day 8 in normal births, or to around day 14 in premature births. Serum bilirubin normally drops to a low level without any intervention required: the jaundice is presumably a consequence of metabolic and physiological adjustments after birth.

Not quite sure how to break this to you, but we've already decided on a name. And it ain't Charlie.

Seriously, many congrats and, as danf said, please give him the name Charles on his birth certificate. I only have half a name and I've lost count of the times I've had to say 'no, it's just Jan, not Janet or Janice'.

Oh, boo, I think Charlie is a perfectly fine name even for the birth certificate! I'm a Kate, not Kathleen or Katherine, and I'm totally fine with that, particularly because Kate is ultra superior to either of those long names. People ask, I tell them, end of story.
