My new favorite typo. [More:] I first came across the word aufficent in a piece by Umberto Eco that I read earlier today. "Aufficent?" I thought feeling out of my depth, "Is that a common word that I've somehow missed all these years? It seems to have the same meaning as 'sufficent' based on the context here, but maybe there's some shade I'm missing. After all, I still have to pause and remember that the written word 'epitome' and the spoken word 'eh-pit-ih-mee' are the same thing. Maybe the brain cell that's supposed to know about 'aufficent' is being used by the subroutine that makes that correction so I don't end up saying 'eppy-tome' and embarrassing myself."

But no, it's a typo. For now. Maybe in the future it could mean "sufficent to replace an existing gold standard", i.e. "An iron on patch is sufficent to cover a hole in one's trousers, but a sewn on patch is aufficent."

Hmmm. Maybe not.
Heh. I like it.
