Welcome to My Job I have a room that has high fungal counts, and[More:] lo and behold, I move this humongous TV cabinet/consul out of the way and find some nice stuff growing. My job now is to figure out the various species growing, and whether they correspond with the fungal spores I have been finding in the air.

Several more pics on my flickr page, IF.
Ewwwwwwww!

wowee! Not only fungus, but a purple room! This is, like, the hell room where you put newbs and rabid dogs, right?

Pretty, though!

It is a school. The school colors are purple. This is a room off a gym that the varsity football team hangs out in.

Oh wow. I wasn't expecting actual mushrooms! That's bad, man.

What's that at the bottom?

Well the green thing is a piece of scrub pad stuffed into a hole, presumably to keep mice from using it, and the brown thing is a mass of fungal material, the kind one sees on hikes in the forest. It's a mess but it's also an easy cleanup, IF the species match what I am getting from air samples.

Good grief! I expect the fungi have grown from spores cast off from the varsity footballers' socks.

maybe it's hallucinogenic. That'd make the work day fly by faster, right?

So, you are to fungi what Bill Murray & Dan Aykroyd were to the Stay Puft Man?

There's asbestos removal two doors down from my classroom. The door windows are covered with an eerie red crepe. Still...

redvixen, are these blackouts common?
heh.

Well Pips, since you noticed it, I would venture to suspect that they are doing it right, under negative air pressure, which means that air flows from spaces that you inhabit INTO the spaces where they are removing the asbestos, hence, no fibers being released into the evironment.

One way to tell is the entrance to the "containment" having air flow into it, as in the plastic flaps drift inward, not outward, if that makes sense.

Thanks danf... yeah, there were some concerns initially amongst the teachers, and the adminstrators and our union rep. have assured us it's being removed the right way, as you described. There's EPA oversight, too, with air quality tests, and they're only doing construction after school hours and on weekends (new science lab).
