By request: the sublime acoustic version of the Church's "The Unguarded Moment."
Thank you. Unfortunately my "computer is not authorized to play '06 The Unguarded Moment (Acoustic).M4P'". :(

I hates me that DRM. It's why I'm not going to buy an ipod. Just on principle.
I like that song though... I saw The Church open for Echo & the Bunnymen in 1986. Great show.

It's pretty easy to convert it to straight mp3. I've done it buy burning to a CD and re-importing, but iTunes does have a "convert to mp3" option. Not sure if that gets rid of DRM though.

Eh, nevermind on the "convert to mp3" option (it blocks protected files). But re-ripping still works. :)

I have no idea what you guys are talking about, sorry. (I am so beyond not technically proficient in this arena, you have no idea.) All I know is that I hate iTunes myself (when I first tried to upload the song, it inexplicably didn't list "The Church" as an artist in my itunes folder... so I had to separately drag the song onto the desktop in order to select it. Then, on top of that, all my Rolling Stones songs have just now inexplicably gone missing!) Grrr.... times like this make me really regret I switched from my PC.

Anyway, someone talk to me like I'm your mom (your reasonably bright, hip mom, but your mom nonetheless) and explain if there's anything I should do to re-upload it so you all can hear it...

scody, it means that it won't play on our computers because they are not authorized to play stuff that your account has bought from itunes.

OHHH. Crap. I hate itunes even more.

This is the reason I have never bought anything from the iTunes store and never will. I do, however, looooove iTunes and my iPod.

Just in case, my comment was definitely no slight on you, scody. Just DRM in general. .m4p, .m4a, and .m4b extensions and what they are. More.
I'm thinking I'm going to get me one of these. The hour-an-a-half trek to work is boring.

The Cowan/iAudio range is worth a look too, Zack_Replica. The x5 has flac and ogg vorbis support, as I imagine the iaudio6 should. The D2 looks fantastic but is perhaps a little expensive.

The D2 does look nice... I was looking at Creative's Zen W (the widescreen one) in the store. I was poking a bit at the display and noticed a little scratch in it, and I'm not sure if it was from me or not, but I didn't like that the screen was so fragile and easy to scratch. And, really, I'm not going to watch movies on the thing, as the screen's too small. It'd suck out all the drama. That x5 looks tasty, but I haven't seen it anywhere I've looked (in Vancouver) so I'll probably just go for the Zen M... it's got some good reviews.

oh, no worries, zack -- no offense taken!

The x5 has flac and ogg vorbis support, as I imagine the iaudio6 should.

this makes me laugh very hard.

Scody, I also learned that lesson. . . buying stuff from iTunes means never being able to share. I am sorta learning to know which stuff I can share and which stuff I can't and don't even with the iTunes stuff.

But I think that we all appreciate the thought.

It's ironic, because I have relatively few songs from the itunes store as it is -- just the ones I've bought after getting a couple of itunes gift cards for Xmas or my b-day. I don't think I've ever bought anything off there otherwise. Ah well. It's a good excuse to eventually buy the album it's evidently from in the first place (per weretable's comment in the original thread)...at which point, by gum, I'll upload it again! Acoustic versions of early-'80s psychedelic pop masterpieces for everyone!

From memory, the M4P file extension means "protected", whereas M4A is your standard playable by everyone.
