lots of things i want to talk about but nothing i want to say[More:]
Amuse me.
I'm hungry. Eat me.

Eat yourself.

I didn't understand a single word of the linked video. Speech and vocal music recording hasn't been a serious technological problem since 1931, when the first disc cutter heads driven by vacuum tube amplifiers appeared.

People who make things that can't be readily understood have nothing to say. And they haven't mastered what was known by 1932...

ooooh clever. I quit

bye
posted by eekacat 01 March | 23:53
i posted it because i found the video interesting.
Not every is about understanding the words and not all meaning is in what the words have to say.
Either way, it is not speaking to you, so don't bother yourself.

I'm at work and consequently can't watch the video, so I can't comment there.

Wow. Excuse me for pointing this out, but that's a really thickheaded statement.

Beckett had nothing to say? Joyce? John Coltrane? Dali?

Coltrane isn't at all hard to understand. Dali enjoyed confusing the masses, but communication wasn't his first intent -- making money was his main object. What do you find hard to understand about Beckett? Why do you think Joyce is "deep?"

I didn't understand a single word of the linked video.

Actually, it's easily intelligible with the translator ear-piece that everyone under 40 has received.
posted by mullacc 02 March | 00:23
It's not that I find Beckett difiicult to understand, but having performed his work and spoken to audience mebers afterward, I know that a lot of people do. Ditto with non-jazz-aligned people listening to later Coltrane.

Also, this isn't about me. Do you honestly believe that if you don't understand something, it has nothing to say?

posted by bmarkey 02 March | 00:26
Nice to see you bmarkey. i always care about what you have to say.
posted by ethylene 02 March | 00:30
This isn't about me, either, bmarkey. We're just entertaining ethylene here.

But the difference between craft and the lack there of is readily apparent. Until there is a critical shortage of craft in the world, why waste time on cruft?

You still haven't answered my question.

Hi eth.

If a tree makes an unintelligible sound while falling in the forest, am I missing anything if I ignore it? Is anyone?
posted by paulsc 02 March | 00:35
i don't find the casual disparagement of things one does not understand amusing.
A tree making unintelligible sound is far more interesting.
Is it like a reversed water plop?

Not if you keep commenting in the thread devoted to it.

We love paulsc because his opinion is always firm and clearly stated.

We love ethylene because her opinion is always firm and vaguely stated in an way that is somehow intelligible. This is relevant to this convo, btw. (I fondly remember Metatalk threads about ethylene: threat or menace?)

I love you all.

What a stream of filth, areshat. If you don't leave the "Gy" alone, people will talk.
And who is this we?
posted by ethylene 02 March | 00:54
Well fine, be that way! It was all love. For all.

what can i say...
posted by arse_hat 02 March | 01:01
The fact that you can't decipher something doesn't make it meaningless.

I find it hard to believe that you've never gone back to a book or a piece of music that you didn't quite "get" the first time around and, upon giving it another shot, found meaning that you missed previously. But then again, according to your original statement you wouldn't, because your initial incomprehension meant that there was nothing to glean there at all, ever.

posted by bmarkey 02 March | 01:01
arse, you can say you're never gonna "GZN" or "Gz2" another random "MV4" "Gy" ever again.

bmark, i find there are two people in the world: those who do not understand something and figure it's something they do not yet know, and those who do not understand something and so figure it must be unknowable and therefore useless.
Until they tell their friends are all into it.
posted by ethylene 02 March | 01:07
Then they have no idea what you are talking about, they have always thought it was cool, before it was cool.

I remember the first comment I ever read from eth, which started with something like "of all the things I've lost, I think I miss my mind the most."

If I'm wrong, please don't correct me; it's a treasured memory. Anyway, I love the video!

If you haven't seen it, you might like "City Paradise" from the same production company, but different director.

i'm sorry, but that was wendell.

Heh. It figures. Of all the things I miss, my ability to mis-attribute is not among them. :)

"Yes, I'm fine. Thanks!"
Someone think of words or a thing and i'll draw it for "friday image thing."
Quick, else i might just draw angry angry unicorns ejaculating rainbows (
posted by ethylene 02 March | 01:40
already did that one).

That part go cut off. Weird.
posted by ethylene 02 March | 01:41
How about bowties ejaculating unitards?
posted by arse_hat 02 March | 01:43
i could but it doesn't appeal to me in an artistic sense.
Someone should give me an image to work off of.

So, taz eh reezza, how are the collage submissions?
Because if they are late, i could try another, if it doesn't kill me.
Fucking duck
and others which are not geared toward usefulness
including mine
i was hoing it was the horsey one or the botanical.
Reminf me not to give you a choice next time.
When do we get a normal one?

I would be distressed by your lack of Buddha nature, if I myself had Buddha nature. Let us walk out in the country together, and see if we can discover enlightment.

"coonfusing"...heh. I think we've got this Buddha sucker treed now!

A raccoon with another raccoon inside its skull, washing its brain?

The last time I suggested it, it was a Halloween costume, but I'd still like to see an image of the idea of the idea of spring.

Disagreement: Vague threat or opaque menace?

Samuel Beckett:

Step out of here, I said, with a stout heart and your bollocks in your boots and come again tomorrow, tell the missus to go chase apes in
hell. There were delicate moments. . . Brats the offscourings of fornication and God Almighty a cheap scent in a jakes. . . .
