Ghost Rider? I've loved various incarnations of the comic since I was a tot. I'm not always a Nic cage fan. But I guess I'd better see it? Not expecting a Hellboy or a Sin City, though. Speaking of which: 300? Your thoughts? [A vaguely comicbook movie thread...)
I like Nic. I met him at a bar one time and bought him a beer. He was in Wilmington NC when I lived there for a few years. I walked up to him and said "Dude, did you really eat that cockroach in Vampire's Kiss?" He said yes, we hung out and had a few drinks, and then a friend of mine (who just happened to have her copy of Raising Arizona in her car) asked him to sign the VHS box. Very nice guy. There was a rumor he was fooling around with one of my students at UNCW at the time. And from what I remember of her (drool), I wouldn't blame him.

But I think I'll pass on Ghost Rider. I'm getting my current fill of comicbook fix from Heroes.

I'm considering buying the "final cut" of Oliver Stone's Alexander, out on DVD this week, because it has a free ticket for 300. I've never seen Alexander, and I have a weakness for epic trainwrecks like the Taylor/Burton Cleopatra, and for some reason I want to see 300 even though I usually can't abide extensive green-screen filming.

As it stands my relationship with Nic Cage is the longest lasting, happiest, most fulfilling one of my life. Apparently it helps enormously when the other person is unaware of your existence. Thus I will go see almost anything if he's in it. When it's a comic book movie with a flaming skull that is just so BONUS I can't stand it. So I'm waiting for the exact perfect moment to go, which I think will probably arrive this weekend.

I saw Ghost Rider, and I have to say, it was enjoyably bad. They made a good attempt at making it campy, and as long as you go in more ready to laugh than be wowed you'll enjoy it. Every time he raises his eyebrow I laughed hysterically. It was ridiculous and they knew it and, most importantly, it looks like they had fun doing it. It was a great satirical look at all the things you thought were cool in junior high: motorcycles, punk rock looks, flaming skulls, super powers and The Carpenters. Except for that last one.

I am absolutely dying to see 300. I want to see it so bad it hurts.

This. Is. SPARTA!

You will love Alexander. It's the Showgirls of historical epics.

I saw an add for 300 last night. I looked at my roommate. He looked at me. I said "I have no idea what that was, but it looks awesome" and he said "I got two passes to the Regal for Christmas I haven't used."

300, definitely. Ghost Rider? I kinda want to see it, but I'll wait until it comes to the second run theaters.

What Lunatic Fringe said.... I've been waiting for 300 since I saw the first teaser in September. STOKED.

I thought Caligula was the Showgirls of historical epics.

Hiya, Fris!

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one intrigued by 300. I thought my perspective might be skewed by my intense love of HBO's Rome.

We'll see 300 when you come visit, LF. And I'll make you watch the Samurai Jack episode based on the same story [probably my favorite war anecdote of all time, btw].

Ewww! Oliver Stone's Alexander was terrible! People actually liked it?! I did not know.

The 300 looks appealing. A lot, I must say. Thanks for the heads up. Hrmm.

Well, as soon as I can manage it (possibly tomorrow evening) I will break out a bottle of bourbon and settle down for three hours and 34 minutes of a film that is either awesome, or terrible, or awesomely terrible, or terribly awesome.

Or mind-numbingly boring. Sorry. Even Troy did a better job of keeping my interest, and that was also boring as shit.

Ghost Rider? Well, aside from the lack of Suicide on the soundtrack, I'll probably get around to it sooner or later. I loved the Mark Texiera stuff in the '90s, found the '60s stuff droll, so I'll probably enjoy this moderately. Second run for sure.

300? Won't be gay enough by far, I betcha.
