Share your recent purchases [More:]

Have you bought anything lately?

I bought a new dishwasher and a garbage disposer last week.

I also bought a quilt and two handbags from Target.com on Saturday. On Sunday I bought a pair of perfect khaki chinos from SamsClub of all places. I haven't shopped in a while, it was fun.

What did you buy?
The complete Father Ted on DVD.

You'll love the Bosch dishwasher (if you aren't replacing an old bosch) - my mom got one last year and it's so freaking quiet.

I am making a quilt. I had to buy the fabric for it. So I guess that counts as purchases.

Gas. Yeah, that's it for this week... payday is tomorrow. A week ago I bought some Easter goodies for all you Bunnies. I need to buy more. :)

A couch (Idemo beige) and two chairs (also Idemo beige) from IKEA. We're going back in a week or two to get a new entertainment centre.

A goddess-style evening dress in a deep coral colour with gold beaded accents at the shoulders. This is the first orange-y thing I've ever bought and I loved it as soon as I saw it. And then I tried it on and I knew I had to have it.

I have nowhere to wear it...yet.

We bought a new dishwasher, too! And a new vacuum. The vacuum is a totally whorey glittery red. It is awesome. I like my suction-related appliances to look like they're wearing lipstick.

Rimmel lipglosses, boots and whiskey (three kinds)!

When I get depressed, I buy things. I'm depressed.

*4 t-shirts from "Pretty Girl", a bargain store in Astoria
*Slow cooker from K-Mart
*West Wing Seasons 1 and 2, used on Amazon.com
*A red fitted sheet and pillowcases from Target.com to spruce up my sofa-bed/couch
*New mascara and tangerine lip gloss in a tube
*Capri leggings (bought in an attempt to stay warm; now it's gotten warmer and I haven't opened them yet)
*Three pairs of shoes from Payless- knee high black boots, black patent leather high heeled pumps (with a wood looking sole), and leopard print slip-on sneaks

A couple of weeks ago, we bought a stove, a microwave (and build-in kit), a range hood and a dishwasher. This afternoon, I am buying $25k worth of concrete to kick off the house that we need to put the kitchen appliances in. Last week, I bought $6,100 worth of time with a couple of big yellow machines to push some dirt around to make a flat bit to pour the concrete onto.

It has begun. Money is leaking out of our bank acount like a sieve with lots of extra holes poked in it.

I just got back from visiting a pal, so I've mostly spent money on booze (Attention Rust Belt beer fans: Great Lakes' Blackout Stout is pretty good, and Bell's Expedition Stout is great) and restaurant food lately (well, and I bought her Cooking Mama). Ooh, and a couple Grant Green cds, and some Nancy Wilson and Lou Rawls records.

Some clothes for mr. taz - which I described on twitter as "like speed dating, but with apparel". We managed to get him two pairs of pants, a shirt, a pullover, four T-shirts, four pairs of underwear, six pairs of socks, and a pair of sneakers, from five stores, all in about an hour and a half before he crumpled into a little ball of agony and we went off to have beers.

I'm sort of in sad shopping hell at the moment because we need so many things, yet paying movers, set up costs for utilities, new internet connection, and three months rent on the new apartment from the jump means - gah - all our money be going byebye. Washing machine is busted, refrigerator is busted, TV showing every sign of attaining bustedness... and more than anything else, I just don't want to move our crappy couch to Athens. I loathe it. Bah double bah.

Today I bought these over-the-knee socks (those last one in black and charcoal gray).

And I tried this on, but it was too small for certain parts, so I'm thinking about ordering the next size up.
posted by Specklet 28 February | 01:40
Oooh, good socks!

I just got the usual stash of CDs including the superb "A Brighter Beat" by Scottish miserablist Malcolm Middleton, "Sleep And Release" by Aereogramme, a 2cd best of Ian Dury And The Blockheads. Oh, and Police Squad! on DVD. Oh, and gig tickets to see Teitur in May and Robert Gomez in April.

"speed dating, but with apparel" is excellent :)

Yestarday I bought Gottlieb Pinball Classics for Wii. Monday, I bought some Clarins shaving oil & hand-cream. Also, 3 CDs arrived in the mail: Ys, Deerhoof’s Friend Opportunity and The Venezuelan Zinga Son, Vol. 1 by Los Amigos Invisibles.

A ticket to Las Vegas over St. Paddy's Day weekend to hang out with my friend who I've known since 4th grade. Her husband (a navy pilot) was just shipped out unexpectedly to the Philippines, and they had tickets to see Spamalot that weekend, so instead of cancelling she invited me instead.

Last week bought myself and my boyfriend massages at a spa out in the desert, where we went for my post-birthday mini-vacation. Also, a pair of boots from Zappos that need to be returned, because evidently there are no longer any boots anywhere in the universe being made that are slim enough to fit my calves. (I think the problem is that I refuse to tuck my jeans into my boots; I don't care if it's trendy again, I think it looks dippy.)

Guitar Hero II

The fact that it has Trogdor as an unlockable track pleases me more than it should.

A 1950s, Soviet-made camera called a Lubitel 2. Took me all day Sunday to figure out how to load film in the thing. I just took my first couple of pics with it yesterday.

A titanium cuff ID bracelet with "keep going" on it. The quote is from W.S. Churchill. ("When you are going through Hell...KEEP GOING.") The reason will celebrate his twelfth birthday this June.

Also, two compasses as gifts for said reason -- the kind with the clear plastic base for laying atop a map, and a lensatic one for teaching him a little dirt-simple orienteering off of overhead imagery. But he's gotta earn that second one.

Some underwear, because the dog ate all mine, but the new underwear is horrible and too big and thus I still need underwear with the special added bonus that this underwear, which I must wear or go commando, keeps almost falling off and is so gigantic that it shows in all its mall wart hideousness when my pants or skirt slide down in the back. So, boo. Other than that all I buy are groceries which disappear as fast as I buy them. Wait! I forgot! I got a 12 pack of pansies.
posted by mygothlaundry 28 February | 09:40
Not much. Today I'm gonna go out and buy a nice new dress as a birthday present to myself, since tomorrow my boo is taking me out to a nice steak house.

Why does the fact that mygothlaundry is wearing gigantic, droopy walmart underwear make me love her even more? Why?

An inverter cable, to help fix my 12" ibook's LCD.

I plan to get a wii this weekend, if Target has any...

I think MGL should just go commando. If her bits get uncovered, "Dog ate my underpants" is a perfectly valid excuse.

(My favorite underwear are the cotton bikinis from Old Navy. Comfy as hell and dirt cheap. A few months ago they were on sale for 97 cents for a pack of 3. I bought every pack on the rack.)

I bought a Nicer Dicer the other week on North Weald market. It was £10, which is a lot better than the As Seen On TV price of £39.99 + £4.95 postage.

It is unbelievably fab. I love it.
posted by essexjan 28 February | 14:15
I think MGL must go to the laundromat tonight and take stock of her underwear inventory. The problem with commando is tights - I become all puritanical like with tights because they are made of eepy creepy nylon that I don't want next to my bits. Yet I like tights. It is a conundrum, to be sure.
posted by mygothlaundry 28 February | 14:52
Oh yeah. You don't want your bits right on the nylon. That'll give you lady problems.
posted by jrossi4r 28 February | 15:05
I love the idea of buying an evening gown "just in case".

And taz, did you ever buy a slipcover? My mum's couch is covered with a surefit cover and it looks good.

Specklet - photos, please.

A Chinese-made Seagull twin lens reflex camera. I had to completely disassemble/clean/reassemble it in order to make it work. It takes decent pictures, even after all that. BP, I almost bought a Lubitel, but the Seagull was only $20 (but, as noted, it wasn't working).
Some Ilford B&W and Fuju Velvia 120 film for above.
A Series V filter kit for my Speed Graphic.

This coat from Home Shopping Network. Yep. I'm a coat whore, and I just don't have a dress coat. It was shipped this morning. I can't wait!!

I'm also waiting on two knitting books.

And Wilder, we need pictures!!!

Oh, the one I'm getting is in champagne.
posted by redvixen 28 February | 19:22
Redvixen, they look like these (but not in that hideous green, they're black) they've got a bit of a flamenco shoe vibe which I like. Although I don't think I'll be dancing in these somehow

This has been the funniest fun Evah.
DooHickie, wonderful grain job. What a difference, big pimpin' 'ndeed./
deborah, All Hail Ikea and the $1,00 breakfast.
phoenixc, I'd suggest wearing it to a concert. Like, Arcade Fire for instance. Whatever, why not, cool lookin'./
jonmc, Someone tell jon that we're talking purchases, not beer 'n smokes, fucking makin' like Tom Waits are yeah¿ Write a song for us then fer Chrissakes. Got a piano at home¿ You need an instrument, I say. Think about it, while you crack your swill./ I'm smokin' a smoke in UR Honour. :)
jrossi4r, You have such a great turn of phrase, I hope you're writing and getting paid properly for it. Tell me it's so. Plse¿ yes, but does the vacuum suck, I mean, you say UR Vacuum looks hawt, but...how many amps has shim¿ ]that's a she/he/him.[
crush-onastick, you Have to name the troika 'o whiskey's fer cryin' out loud./ And the Boots./ do show plse. We wanna know.

Money is leaking — Beautiful./ What a phrase for all times.

ThePinkSuperhero, purchase some property next time you're feeling the urge to BUY. INVEST INSTEAD. :) Return the Capri leg warmers and exchange them for capri pants, it's getting nigh on spring, people, believe it.
dg, Wow, a gas stove. I'm in an apartment, no gas stove, which I'd kill for, But, I do have a BBQ/smoker combo on the BalQue-ny./ — No gas. Charcoal and hickory, mesquite... Sounds like you've just moved in and are upgrading... it all depends if you need new pipes and electrical too... but, $6,100.00 sounds high for pushing dirt around, how many days¿ Where the hell you living¿
taz, one word, leather. White leather. Get that couch covered in leather, never mind those washable ]oh sure[ covers. Ack. Toss that couch and hit Ikea at least. Not as scary as you think.
TheDonF, Scottish band¿ All I can think of is 'You're Mother's Got A Penis — Goldie Lookin' Chain. why¿ I played hockey with a kid Straight from Scotland, a stand up fellah, a great hockey player, impressive indeed, contrary to what I would have assumed. Hockey in Scotland, c'mon. Too True. Better 'n You Canadians — Ha./ Speaking as one Canadian. Good to have him on the team, anytime.
scody, plse don't mention the desert, spa's or cowboy boots in the same paragraph./ Meh, go ahead. In one sentence though. I agree with you abouyt the tucked in pants¿ Fakin' capri is wehat it is, I say wear jodhpurs then. I wear my pants over my boots, but in the summer, with shorts./ :) j/k
BoringPostcards, Whadda camera. Cool. Those damn retro Russians.
PaxDigita, don't mention Churchill to me, he sold fucking Poland to the Communists. Goddamn./ Yeah, thanks a lot. JMO.
mygothlaundry, Firstly, the dawg has to stay out of the panty drawer. You certainly may go commando and apply the "Dog ate my underpants" as a perfectly valid excuse ]as jrossi4R put it succinctly[. Forget the twelve pack, get THREE pair of hawt panties, at least. Go to a store that specializes in bras 'n panties, with bra fitting etc. Worth the money. You'll feel like a million bucks. It's all about the underarmour. Egyptian Cotton.
Specklet, please tell us you aren't wearing that corset with the sockage./ The courset colour...it's not the peacock is it¿ Howabout .White or Black mmmmaybe Red¿ Wait, fluffy battle kitten's quilt. There's a swell idea. On Black. :)
fluffy battle kitten, please quilt a corset for Specklet. Talk amongst yourselves. We wanna see.

I didn't buy anything so much as I made a barter.
A product photo shoot for an ad for these Sever Goalie Pads. Sweet.
