Name my album Please submit album title suggestions for my RPM Project. Song titles inside. [More:]

Album art suggestions also welcome!

Song titles (at least right now)

If You Don't Mind
No Reason to Cry
Bridal Bed
Some You Win, Some You Lose
Snow Globe Town
Love Like Yours
Ladies of the Radio Barn Dance
All I Want to Say

Most of these are kinda early country-ish. A couple were calculated to kind of rip off the Hank Williams / Jimmie Rogers / Kitty Wells / Patsy Cline honky-tonk torch song idea.

I'm less than thrilled with this material, but there it is and the deadline's Thursday! I've got a few name ideas, but the MeChazens are always a good source of creativity.
Whoops, one other title to add:

Sin and Redemption

Perhaps it's a cop out, but any of those song titles could also work as the album title, especially If You Don't Mind or Some You Win, Some You Lose.

Radio Barn Dance sounds good to me. Kinda retro.
posted by jonmc 26 February | 14:34
I actually kind of like "Some You Win, Some You Lose" as a title.

Album titles are difficult, second only to band names. How about something like "Ghosts of Torch Songs Passed" or...I dunno. Man, that's hard.

Tales From The Rail? (as in bar rail, goiung with the honky-tonk motif. just an idea)

"Some You Win, Some You Lose" would sum up how I feel about some of these recordings...! These are all good ideas and feedback, though, guys. THanks and feel free to keep adding.

"Girls with Morals"
"Smapron" or "Smockron"
"Honky Tonk Torch Songs" (which I actually kinda like)

The Various Heart-Aches

Whoa, weird -- for a while I thought about calling it "Seven Kinds of Heartache"

My three names:

Even If You Do

Give Me Time

And Then Some

I'm totally enchanted by the idea of a song called Snow Globe Town. I can't wait to hear that one.

I like Honky Tonk Porch Songs

(And I finished my album! I just need to do the artwork, it'll be in the mail on Wednesday)

Oh I also really like Calculated Torch Songs, which you came up with yourself.

(or Calculated Honky-Tonk)

Your search - "Ladies of the Radio Barn Dance" - did not match any documents.

Another vote for Ladies of the Radio Barn Dance - it's original, quirky and definitely eye-catching (I can only imagine the cover art).

damn. all of a sudden I really wish I did this. but i've been so busy I just put it out of my mind. next time (is there a next time)? Maybe i'll just do it whenever I can start.

I switched at home to mac though so I'm still getting grips on how I want to work my audio setup with the macbook.

anyway, grats to you Miko for doing it! I'll try and think of a catchy album name to contribute :)

Oh, this is just excellent.

scribble, scribble. The things you've come up with are great song fodder, at the very least. (Some of) Why Women Get Cranky? Hilarious.

Drezdn, major congrats! I wish I were more done than I am. I'm not very done. YOu managed your month well and I can't wait to hear the project.

Freudianslipper, I think RPM intends to be an annual thing, as long as the interest is there. So, block out next February now!

'nother vote for Some You Win, Some You Lose

Catchy, cool and definitely Country. ;)

Ok, my only problem with "Some You Win, Some You Lose" is that it reminds me too much of a line from Journey's "Don't Stop Believing". Of course, that may only be me and my obsession with 80s power rock.

I personally like "Ladies of the Radio Bar Dance", among others. That title just makes me happy for some reason - I can see women in full western skirts all twirly as they go down the line.

Some art ideas... though, they may be way off base without hearing the music (also, I just used one of the titles I liked from suggestions here): 1, 2, 3, 4.

Ladies of the Radio Barn Dance emerges as the clear favorite. It seems to call up great vivid associations for folks.

It's also a good choice because it's sort of atmospherically in line with last year's project, not a jarring different statement of any kind. Thanks for the input.

The only problem? It's probably the weakest song and I can't wrestle into a shape I like. But hey - I have two more days!

I'm suffering from a large amount of accumulated sleep deprivation, so take any or all of these with as much salt as needed:

Blood-Red Lipstick and Johnny Walker Black
Hung Up and Hung Over
You Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time
Bloody Mary is My New Best Friend
Pity Party
Old Flame, New Bottle
Killin' Time (When I Sould Be Killin' You)

And I know this one won't work, but I really wish someone would come up with a song to go with Mister, You Fucked With The Wrong Waitress.

Play it faster and louder. That often works. heheh

Holy crapulence, taz. When I said "I can only imagine the cover art" I think I meant to say "I can only imagine how awesome the cover art would be." Yeah, that's it.

The only problem? It's probably the weakest song and I can't wrestle into a shape I like.

Miko - any chance of, say, posting it (or bits of it) to metamusic/musicfilter/youknowwhutImean and asking for feedback? Or would that break a whole lot of copyrights?
posted by hangashore 26 February | 21:25
OK, I love every single one of bmarkey's suggestions. I don't know how fitting they are.
