I really love this song. Mainly cause it sounds great, but also because it takes a lot of typical love song ideas and stands them on their heads.→[More:] As a bonus here's some latter-day revivalism of the same style. Hope you like it.
The song by The Crytals is great. I've think I've heard it a few times over the years. It reminds me a little of The Ronettes. How ironic, Ronnie Spector is your second link.
I've always been attracted to the love songs that express the attitude --don't worry about my baby, I love him, even though he's not rich or smart or maybe he's even had run-ins with the law.
Tracy Ullman's, They Don't Know is a favorite. Let's Hear It for the Boy has a similar message, but it's not as good. Last year I was really grooving on these lyrics from Ciara. I think the title is "So What?"
some people dont like it
cuz you hang out in the streets
but you my boyfriend
youve always been here for me
i love the thug in ya
no matter what people think
im gon be here for ya
and i don't care what they say
Lori, "They Don't Know" was originally done by the amazing Kirsty MacColl (in 1979, I think). She was a BRILLIANT pop songwriter who loved the girl group sound, was a whiz in the studio AND had a great voice to boot.
But oy did the download-ad ever freak me, my whole firefox appeared to crash and a little box stating something about "system doctor" recommeded that I scan my computer for viruses appeared. Yikes. Crazy ad!
