This IS a smell I remember. . whenever we had a red tide, we could, one, smell the dead fish for weeks at a time, and two, go in the ocean at night and whenever the water was agitated, say, by breaking waves or even by a hand moving though it, there would be this other-worldly green-blue glow.
The Salton Sea is a trippy place. Maybe the smell will still be there for the Cochella folks.
Also, I love how the photos consist of a wide shot of all the dead fish, and then a close up of a dying fish "struggling" or "still breathing" among all the other dead fish.
It's like a pattern.
Wide shot.
Struggle.
