Today I signed a lease on the new apartment, found out I've lost about 10 pounds since the first of the year, and am about to go get really good free wine at a reception at the Ritz Carlton. What a completely lovely day!

Yes, it was Apt. #1. Given that I've never heard back from Apt. #2 woman, it seems most of my fretting was a bit premature.

I just went to get a sandwich and the deli owner said, "How many pounds have you lost? At least 20!" Hee. There are definite advantages to being tall...

Yeah, I know. But she actually seems sincere; she and I have been chatting since she opened the place a few months ago, and she strikes me as one of those people who tends more toward "honesty" than tact.

There was an awkward moment a few weeks ago when she first noticed I was losing weight, and asked how. Which made me feel like I was cheating on the diet for ordering a sandwich, and cheating on the deli for not eating as much... it was very confusing.

heh. I know what you mean. Everyone I know's afraid to mention weight-loss in case it means you're on chemo or have AIDS or something.
