Good News / Bad News thread [More:]

Good News: I just scored a fantabulous new RED HOODIE from my new job (company site link). I love hoodies, plus it's a properly-fitting size small (a rare find) and the company logo is even discreet and not too dorky-looking. Woo!

Bad News: I've got a bad attack of the Afternoon Drowsies / Can't Concentrate To Save My Life syndrome for some reason and I've got a bunch of work left yet to do. Plus they are STILL intermittently running that damn Sawzall upstairs. Which means I'm alternately nodding off and getting startled out of my chair. Boo!
Good news: people seem to really like one of my RPM demos over on Mefi Music.

Bad news: dame may murder lonefrontranger and steal his hoodie.

I am not surprised!

IT'S hoodie

Sorry, lonefrontranger—Internet nerds default to weeners when I don't know better, and the lone ranger being a dude only reinforces that.

Good news: I've found the solution to protein aggregates!

Bad news: I don't know what protein aggregates are, and I didn't know they were a problem. :(

Cortex: I'm sure her hoodie would look very cute on you.

CitrusFreak - the quick answer is that they're a problem because they introduce impurities when trying to utilise (recombinant) proteins for therapeutic drug applications.

the long answer is that a Ph.D. in organic chem. really kinda helps to actually understand what we do here.

cortex: no harm done and here I went to all that trouble to update my wiki this week...

good news: I don't have to work at DumbCo anymore.
bad news: it's too cold to go out roaming the city, so I'm stuck sitting at home in my bathrobe and going stir crazy.

Bad news: I am also very drowsy this afternoon and my office is stuffy and I don't have the motivation to get up and out in the fresh air.

Good news: House is empty till 7pm PST tonight so I can go home and take a nap!

jonmc: I had not heard this. I recently spent about a month in permabathrobe-and-slippers mode myself.

Not working for Dumbco can *only* be a positive thing, right?

Good news: It's the weekend and I have a bottle of Laphroaig.

Bad news: I'm sure the universe will figure something out for me.

also, just this moment:

good news: the doorbell just rang, probably dinner being delivered

bad news: it was just some kids randomly ringing bells, so I ran down two flights only to find my self standing on the sidewalk in my robe holding pips' kitten-shaped purse.

Bad news: my memory is shot, I don't know what the hell I am doing at any given minute, I have to work tomorrow, and I missed an opportunity to have a great night out tomorrow night because I am a complete dipshit.

Good news: husband wants to go England this summer.

I laughed too. I envisioned jonmc swatting kids over the head with his purse.

yeah, I am sure the kids laughed too... Or run away scared. Only jonmc knows.

Good News: Jon, you always make me laugh!!!! My mental image of that is priceless!!

Bad News: Jon, it's also like twelve degrees with the wind chill, and you know what the cold can do to delicate parts!!!

Good News: The dummy I ordered off ebay to model my jewelry arrived today so I can start taking pics for my portfolio tomorrow!

Bad News: I'm procrastinating and have been for the last few days - and it's not like I've made good use of my procrastination either. I haven't gone to the gym since Monday and I haven't worked on any new pieces since Tuesday - so what am I doing online?!?!
posted by phoenixc 09 February | 21:44
Hardy Har Har. Well, since I haven't cut my hair since February, haven't shaved in two weeks or trimmed the goatee in a month, and the robe is ratty, the purse just made me look like a moderately effeminate Howard Hughes. All I need was pink kleenex boxes on my feet.

Good news: I've finally got a gym membership. I've been lifting for about a week now and it feels really fucking good. I'm gonna do a cycle of HST for the next couple of months. Tonight, I established the five rep maximums in a whole bunch of exercises.

Bad news: current temp assignment probably won't go perm. But I kind of knew that already and wasn't really crazy about this particular place anyway.

More good news: co-workers at current temp assignment like me enough to try to convince me to stay.

Good news: I spent all day cooking a pretty great dinner. Duck breasts with black cherry compote, homemade ravioli stuffed with leek and parmesan cheese, mixed green salad with a garlic, lemon, and red wine vinagrete, and a chocolate and blueberry pie. I also rendered the fat from the duck so I now have 1 cup of duck fat (hello potatoes!) and two duck legs brining for dinner tomorrow night. Enough of the homemade ravioli burst in the pot of boiling water that I decided to let it cook down so I could add some cannelini beans and more chopped leeks to turn it into a soup. And since I happened to have a duck carcass, I decided to boil it for about 6 hours in a large pot of water so I could make duck broth for cooking up a gigantic pot of gumbo later on this week. Yummina yum yum!

Bad news: Because I spent all day cooking a fantastic dinner (and then some) and cleaning up afterward, and writing a column so other people can do this on Valentine's Day, its now 11:30 and I'm too tired to do the sewing I should have done instead.
