Ask MeCha about my new work machine. [More:]

1. This monitor seemingly SUCKS! Everything is fuzzy and pixelated and nothing I adjust seems to help. It's a brand-new Dell 17" flatscreen and it SUCKS ASS. What can I do? Hope me! I'm so sad!

2. Now that I've changed machines, MetaChat no longer shows me "(2 new)" in the comment blurb. Coincidence?

Bonus question: Every time I open a document in Word, the view setting's default is set at 132% (WTF). I'm getting reeeeal tired of having to adjust it to 100% every time I open something! How can I make it do right?!
It sounds like your monitor is not set at the 'native' resolution of the display, so it's having to blow up the image, making it all blurry. Try changing the resolution to 1280x1024 (a common one for 17" TFTs).

Make sure your desktop resolution is the same as the "native" resolution of the LCD panel. Anything else and the LCD has to emulate a CRT and make the pixels bigger, which on an LCD means fuzzier.

Right mouse click the desktop and go to "properties", then the "settings" tab. Grab that slider and try 1024x768 or 1280x1024, apply the settings and see if the pixels look sharp and defined like little blocks.

One of those two screen sizes *should* be the native resolution of the screen, if not try 'em until it looks sharp.

I'm not going to bother telling you about the "native" resolution.

Ahhh!

Duuuh!

Okay, now all the text is very small. If I change the DPI setting, will that make things fuzzy again?

Guess what, Speck, I have the same monitor (at home), and the same problem. And no matter what the res, it's never perfect. I can't stand doing graphic work on it because everything looks like ass.

Yeah, it's sucky. But now it's better, at least. And, I can see the new comments dealie.

So I'm fixed as I'm gonna get by asking these questions.

Now, if only I knew the right questions to ask about all the other crap in my life...

A job that makes you unhappy is no job at all.

Call your mom/dad/grandma/etc.

You're so not fat, have cheesecake for lunch.

Is he/she cute? Kiss him!

The wall outlet does not dispense free sparkly candy.

Eat your vegetables!!

Don't put your finger in there.

Yes, sugar gliders are cute. But not for eating. No, they're not made of sugar.

Her! Whatever!

After I kiss her whatever, my monitor is sometimes blurry too. It usually gets better after I clean the whatever off my glasses.

My job right now is actually okay! (I know, wow, right?) And it's not in the field I want to be in, but I'm currently in training for the field I want! Yay!

Call your mom/dad/grandma/etc.

Okay. I do, but there's a couple people I really need to get in touch with...

I don't really like cheesecake. And the last time I had what I wanted for lunch (pizza) it gave me a tummy ache. But today I'm having an avacado and a boiled egg and some ryevita, and that's not half-bad.

Is he/she cute? Kiss him!

I did! Him! Her! Yeah!

The wall outlet does not dispense free sparkly candy.

I know. I know. And I'm pretty sad about that.

Eat your vegetables!!

I do! But I don't floss regularly.

Don't put your finger in there.

*looks up guiltily* What. I wasn't. I didn't do anything.

They are very very very cute. But they don't taste very good, nope. Lately they've taken to jumping all over my arm when I get it anywhere near them and they won't get off! You ever tried to get a sugar glider off your arm when you don't want 'em on there? I know, impossible, right?

Heh! Especially when you've just put your jacket on - the jacket that they luuuurve and spend ages jumping on and off of and playing in the sleeves and pockets. I only put the thing on to go shopping (they're fine on their own in my place for a few minutes) and I almost always have two clingy gliders running all over me.

But yay for gliders being all clingy and cute with their mum/dad :)

We really, really need more photos of the gliders, Specklet. And TheDonF? We need photos of yours as well.

Hop to it, you two!
