The Great Lost Band Of The 1970's. →[More:]The Iron City Houserockers hailed from Pittsburg, PA. They were poised to follow in the wake of Springsteen/Seger/Petty's success with their tough but lyrical hard trad-rock, but they somehow missed the big time, which to me is a damned shame.
'Dance With Me' is one of the most poignant love songs I've ever heard, due mainly to the naked pleading exposed in vocalist Joe Grushecky's rough voice and a master character study since I can completely picture the two proatgonists in my mind which renders the emotional wallop of the song huge. On the other end of the spectrum,
'Have A Good Time (But Get Out Alive)' is some tough-as-nails (lyrically and musically) advice to an aging rebel who's life is starting to hit the wall. As a bonus, here's Joe Gruschecky's post-Housrockers solo single
'Goodbye Steeltown', an eloquent elegy to his beleaguered home city.
Hope you like 'em.
