Thread for people who don't care about the superbowl. I mean, I hear those football guys really, uh, play a good game. Or something.

Superwhat? Is that some kind of newfangled smoking utensil or something?

Is there anything more boring than the Superbowl? Even watching paint dry has something going for it.
posted by cmonkey 04 February | 12:54
They have a whole entire channel dedicated to golf.
posted by mike9322 04 February | 12:56
Maybe if I get stuck watching the Superbowl some time, I'll paint part of the wall next to the TV so I can watch it dry.

Spurs 0, Man United 4. That's all the football you need to know about.

All I want to know is Animal Planet going to do the Puppy Bowl again this year? I'd watch that.

*Sniff*.."Smell that son?"
"Yeah, dad, it smells like-"
"Football."
"I was gonna say religion!"
"Well son, you know they're both the same thing - it's all about herd conformity."
"Gee, I never knew that!"
"It's true, and you know what I taught you -
   1. Don't swallow ideologies whole! Chew all theories 100 times before digesting.
   2. Beware of subliminal messages in advertising! Deface billboards at every opportunity.
   3. Give your subconscious a break! Make room for a well-integrated subjectivity in your social struggles.
Oh, and if you see your mom this weekend, be sure and tell her SATAN!SATAN!SATAN!SATAN!"

Aside from the fact that it's -2°F outside right now, I've decided to stay indoors today, but will not watch the Super Bowl. The streets of Chicago will be crazy today, whether or not the Bears win, and I just don't want to be out amongst the football fans.
posted by smich 04 February | 13:51
I tried to watch what you Americans have chosen to call football on NASN once, but there were just way too many commercial breaks. It was as if it was only meant for people with ADD.

Eurosport is showing the Malta Cup snooker final tonight. I think I'll watch this instead.*

* This paragraph is pure flamebait. I'm actually going to watch Miss Marple.
posted by Daniel Charms 04 February | 14:14
Every day is Superbowl Sunday for me. Just without the football. heheh
posted by mischief 04 February | 14:23
With the Superbowl, I used to find myself skipping the game and trying to catch the commercials. But the last few years even those have sucked, the GoDaddy ones being utterly and completely lame. Nothing of the caliber of the old "Herding Cats" commercial. I'll give the whole thing a miss.
posted by King of Prontopia 04 February | 14:36

I'm waiting until 6:30 to do my grocery shopping, because I figure the store will be empty then. That should show you how much I'm into the Superbowl.
posted by amro 04 February | 15:23
Living in Chicago and not giving a crap about the Superbowl has made watching the local news or listening to talk radio not very desirable. But it's giving me lots of extra time to listen to CDs.
posted by Slack-a-gogo 04 February | 15:29
They have a whole entire channel dedicated to golf.

Watching golf is boring. Playing golf is fun. Yes, believe it or not, I have golfed (real golf, not miniature/putt-putt). Although I will admit miniature golf is funner.

Yes, funner is a word. 'Cause I said so.
posted by deborah 04 February | 15:31
Matildaben -- Yes, the Puppy Bowl will be on Animal Planet. I think it starts around 4? 5? Something like that.

The one upside of the brutal cold front currently making life miserable in the upper midwest is that it gives me a good excuse not to venture out and drive to my brother's house for the traditional Superbowl-watching party.

I only care about the super bowl if the patriots are playing.

Mind you, I didn't say I understand it.
I just give a crap about it.
And a minor crap at that.

It was as if it was only meant for people with ADD.

I got irritated by that for about a quarter of a second, until I realized that this year, if I DO watch, it will indeed only be for the ads.

My husband sat and watched it all by himself, which made me feel sorry for him, so I sat with him for about 5 minutes and wanted to kill myself, it was so boring. So I went and played Final Fantasty XII instead, and listened to him laugh at the commercials (which are unbelievably overrated).

Then I went to bed and had a weird dream about me and my best friend, Brad Pitt. He did stuff like call me first thing in the morning to see if I wanted to have coffee together, and he'd meet me at lunch just to say hi. He needs to get a life...geez. He was getting on my nerves.
posted by iconomy 05 February | 08:48
I must confess. I did "watch it" as far as it was on and I was in the same room as the TV as I used my computer.

And it was fucking boring, even for a superbowl. Even for any given NFL game, it was so incredibly fucking boring. OK, the Colts getting that shitty start and then winning was neat, but other than that there was little excitement. The game sucked, the commercials sucked even worse than usual. It was total anticlimax.

If I was a football fan I think I'd feel ripped off or something.
posted by loquacious 05 February | 09:35
ico, I don't think you're going to believe this, but I also had a dream in which Brad Pitt was a friend of mine, not too long ago. This is very weird, because I don't have any particular thing for Brad Pitt, I don't read celebrity stuff, and I don't dream about celebrities. The only thing that I can figure is the New Orleans connection, and that if we still lived in our old place, we would be neighbors.
