I care! I love the commercials and the half-time show. Although, I have no idea who is performing this year.

Football is engrained into by being, even if I don't always follow the game. I grew up watching football, some of my earliest memories are of my father yelling or hooting at the television. Family baby showers aren't complete without a Miami Dolphins onesie. And my husband lives for football. There's no escaping, I can't help but to get into the spirit. It looks like it's going to be a party of two tonight. I am running up to the store to buy some munchies. I'm thinking homemade nachos, buffalo wings, and of course beer!

Gooooooo, Bears! Wooo!

Yes. That is all I have to say.

At least for right now. In a few hours there will be lots of "GET HIM!" and "GO GO GO GO GO!" which I have discovered, this season, are pretty much the only two things I yell at the television.

What, no 'I'm blind! I'm deaf! I wanna be a ref!"?

(I was at the bar a few eeks ago watching football and a linebacker somehow managed to intercept the ball and ran for the endzone. Some wit yelled "RUN FAT BOY RUN!!" from the back of the room. I love bars.)
posted by jonmc 04 February | 13:56
Ha!

No, I don't harass the referees. That seems too mean. I don't even actually like it all that much when they tackle people really hard, and watching the games with a neurologist has actually made that worse, because now I imagine all the ridiculous damage they're doing to themselves and each other every time I hear the helmets smacking into each other.

So I like to encourage fast running and gentle tackles, or even running someone out of bounds (especially if it makes the cheerleaders scatter, cuz that makes me giggle) and to assume fairness and honesty from the refs.

Yes, I know, I'm such a girl. :)

Though I did kind of like watching Urlacher launch himself at people from inconceivable angles in the play-off games. So maybe the bloodthirst will emerge.

Go Bears!
posted by occhiblu 04 February | 14:04
Urlacher, now there's a guy that can make a running back disappear.

Yeah. If my Giants can't win, I always root for the old school team*. And my beloved Remote Sports Bar has the aforementioned $25-kickoff-to-final-whistle-all-you-can-eat-and-drink deal, so I supect we'll be beating up fire hydrants on the way home.

(back in my retail daze, I had a customer who was a dead ringer for Mike Ditka. I told him, and he said "Yeah, and I'm from Chicago, too. I got a lot of free drinks out of this face")

I'm cheering the Bears just because they are not a team that used to play in Baltimore or Cleveland.

I have to admit I'm not a big sports fan, not snobby about it I can watch awhile and enjoy it, but don't miss it if I don't. As such, its been a few years since seeing any part of the Superbowl, channel surfing today I stopped on some of the pre-game hoopla out of curiosity.... Did they change the name of the Superbowl to the Super Pizza Hut Bowl? I was a bit surprised at the level of integration of the advertisement, all that for crappy pizza. I wonder how much they are paying for all that embarrassingly orgasmic corporate por PROmo?
posted by edgeways 04 February | 15:47
One reason I love the Super Bowl is that I love all mid-level holidays. You know, days that aren't as high stress as Christmas, but always will include some sort of celebration- Fourth of July, New Years Eve, etc. I love a good celebration!

I just have to say those new mics the talking heads are using are ridiculously stupid looking. Like some kind of giant black mole growing from their face or something.

Hello, TV execs? We're not impressed by headset mics anymore. Most of us already have more functional ones that look cooler. Also, TV production has been using nearly invisible clip-on mics for decades. Trying to "tech up" the production values by having your talent strap on incredibly dorky looking mikes is just ludicrously goofy.

I mean, really. This is coming from someone who owns and has worn a hobbyist-modified wrist-mounted computer of vintage origin. I own a large array of ballistic nylon holsters and pouches, and a duty belt to hold them. I have written an email from the toilet. I read Gutenberg Project Jules Vernes etexts on a palm and other portable media devices. I have seriously considered the purchase of a head-mounted display and chording keyboard.

I am literally just about as unapologetically dorky as they come.

And yet I'm still outdorked by you jocky meatheads with your little "beauty spot" bead mics. Whatup?

Well, he got rid of the bandanna, initapplette -- there's one very happy Prince fan in the audience.

Unfortunately the way they do these "made for TV" showcases these days is that they only pick/allow/hire the pretty people to go down on the field to "enjoy" the concert. Which is why the audience probably seemed to be composed of mostly young white blonde girls pogoing around without any sense of rhythm whatsoever. Said eye candy is usually staged at the front of the stage, stationed in groups around the camera. Also if you watch carefully you can see the high security, color-coded wrist ID bands they use to identify "participants".

Long story short, whoever got the bandana probably didn't even know who Prince is until yesterday.

Especially the one making fun of foreigners. *Up yours fuckah* 6)I got to learn some interesting new words during the incessant fumbling, intercepting, sacking --I'd blush but I can only imagine what they mean. heh.
