Nevermore [More:]

There's a raven living in the tree right outside my office door...

... this ebony bird beguiling my sad fancy into smiling,
By the grave and stern decorum of the countenance it wore,
`Though thy crest be shorn and shaven, thou,' I said, `art sure no craven.
Ghastly grim and ancient raven wandering from the nightly shore -
Tell me what thy lordly name is on the Night's Plutonian shore!'
Quoth the raven, `Nevermore.'
and dammit, I forgot to bring my camera but he's been there for several days before...

Across from a church in St Andrews is a plaza which is the work-place of several magical ravens.

My birth mother comes as a dragonfly (in both live and pictorial form). Jon's uncle a sea gull. Anyone who might be paying you a visit (from "beyond")?

(I'm a strange atheist.)

Oh, Pips, I love that. I think of my mother in hummingbirds; I was reading a book on grief, written by a totally SCIENCE psychiatrist guy, who said the day his sister died, a praying mantis somehow ended up in his 6th-floor closed office.

Jack and Jill, one midnight dreary,
From their labors weak and weary,
Went up the hill to fetch a pail of water.
Jack fell down, and stumbling, stumbling,
Broke his crown; then tumbling, tumbling,
Jill came down, where the same fate got her.
The next morning, both bruised and sore,
They swore to fetch water…nevermore.

You know, if when the Cleveland Browns moved to Baltimore and became the Ravens, they had named their stadium "Poe Field" like I wanted instead of PSINet or whatever now-defunct corporate entity paid them, I'd have changed my NFL allegiances and become a fan of the best-named boring winning team in the league, rather than continuing to root for my worst-named boring losing Redskins. I mean, fucking Poe Field! How hard is that, Baltimore?

"Po' field, it don't got any co'porate sponsors."

Hugh you've probably in one paragraph neatly summed up the core of my angst and bitter hatred for the Baltimore Ravens.

I mean I like the bird just fine (the one outside my office is honking / cawing at passing cars as I type this and he's eversocute)... but the football team can bite me.

Wow Pips, I didn't see your response until just now... no can't say as I'd know who it was visiting me, tho that's an awfully cool idea. Haven't had anyone near or dear to me pass on recently. Dad's even still in one piece according to the fraternal unit.

I can hear him/her/it croaking (ravens definitely don't caw like crows... more like a honk with knobs on) outside my window at around 9-10AM every day, then again near dusk. I guess the tree is 'home'. I've never had an office with a view before. it's kind of cool.

I wonder if he's looking for eyeballs? nerdy Terry Pratchett reference, forgive me
