Ah! Bad science reporting at its best (worst?) Come inside, where I tear CNN a new one.[More:]

First of all, the writer does not understand the controversy over Maxwell's demon at all.

Secondly:
"His mechanism traps molecular-sized particles as they move. As Maxwell had predicted long ago, it does not need energy because it is powered by light."

Sorry, my head just exploded. Because, as anyone who went to environmental camp learned, light is energy.

Molecular machines are cool and all, but seriously, could Reuters hire a reporter with at least a 12th grade knowledge of science?
The Truth: No, because anybody with a 12th grade knowledge of science can get a better paying, more rewarding and less stressful job than being a reporter. J-schools are littered with the math-is-hard crowd. Sure, there's a small handful of brainy First Amendment, Fourth Estate idealists but methinks they eventually grow up to realize that if they're going to be corporate cogs either way, they might as well get paid to do it.
