Quebeçers are silly, and a little asshole-ish about stuff like that. I went to visit a friend of mine who's living in Montréal - she showed me a sign that the rabid Everyone Must Speak French, Dammit! groups wanted changed. It was a headstone carver's sign in Hebraic, and the name of the owning family in English, located in a fairly noticeable spot. As they cater to Jews almost exclusively, and have for some 60 years, there was no need for them to have the sign in English or French. The French wanted the Hebrew removed completely. Dickheads. (oh, and the sign's about 3' x 1.5') Go to Chinatown and see how much French they've got there! So yah, every now and then the Quebeç nationalists/seperatists make a bunch of noise, but between then no one really pays them much attention. Montréal's fun to visit, without all the static.
And where the hell is Herouxville anyways, ya know?
Yeah, Zack_Replica - I was astounded when I was in Montreal that even in the touristy areas (we were somewhere readign about native birds) that the separatists had vandalised the English explanations. Like, they don't want tourists either?
I have never been able to understand the separatist mentality. It really makes no sense to me, that all the rest of Canada should have bilingual signs, while Quebec can have French only. Oh, and the idea of separatist FEDERAL party? That's just cuckoo. The NATIONAL party that is devoted to leaving the union. That said, Jacques Duceppe is a pretty smart guy.
I dunno man, I usually just try to look the other way.
