What are you carrying? [More:]Well, more specifically, what cards do you carry in your wallet/purse/manpurse/goatskin or whatever you lug around with you everywhere?

For some reason, I have this feeling that I both own and carry way too many cards of various kinds but, every time I attempt to cull them, I can't bear to get rid of any. Here is what I carry:
MasterCard (Gold)
American Express card
Visa (Gold)
QANTAS Frequent Flier card
Driver's licence
Library card (plus those of 3 of my kids)
RACQ membership card
Hudson's Reward Club card
Blockbuster Video card
Big W layby card
Campbells Cash and Carry card
Officeworks Copy Card
Anaconda Adventure Club membership card
Nerang RSL Club membership card
FlyBuys card
Coles Myer gift card ($50)
Medicare card
Sea World Annual Pass
General Safety Induction card.

I am interested in how this compares with others.

Wallet: Five bank cards, driving license, AA membership card, Oyster card. Notes and coins. Photo of my girlfriend. Any more than that I couldn't close the thing.

If I'm carrying a small bag, I'll put my wallet, phone and iPod in there, along with a couple of pens and some paper.

If I'm on business, I take a bigger bag and add a laptop and some business cards.

um. I have an ArtIC membership card, a Chicago Bar Association Card, a driver's license, an American Express, Bank Visa debit, an Intelligentsia buy 10 get 1 free card, my Dad's old business card, a United Mileage Plus card, a Von Maur hosiery club card and a Forever21 refund card which I don't know from whence came.

I do not carry my ARDC card or Courthouse id, however.

This is the city. Los Angeles, California. A nice place with mostly nice people. When the not nice people make trouble, I go to work. I carry a badger.

But seriously folks, let's take a look in the Wendell Wallet, shall we?

California Driver License
Cal DL change-of-address card to keep until my next license renewal (this year)
AAA (Auto Club) Card
Proof of Car Insurance (from AAA)
$500 Guaranteed Arrest Bond Certificate from AAA (because you just never know)
Bank Debit Card
'Platinum' MasterCard with very low limit
Visa Gift Card with about $25 left on it (long story)
Costco Membership Card

Medicare ID
Medicare HMO ID
card with gate code to storage space in Burbank, containing stuff neither I nor my Ex can use
little book of stamps, 14 left of original 20
reminder card of next doctor's appointment
spare house key and car key and two quarters in 'hidden compartment'
I just realized that I have not yet gotten a new library card for my new home area... library card had always been one of my must-haves
Cash: rule of thumb, at least as much as I intend to spend + $10 + $1-per-mile away from home I'm going (downtown SLO or Pismo $5, Paso Robles or Santa Maria $25, L.A. $200) - currently $38, 13 in ones.

Well, I feel a bit better after seeing rainbaby, jonmc and seanyboy's lists. It beats me how some people manage to fit so much into a wallet and still fit it in their pocket. If I am driving anywhere more than an hour or so, I have to take mine out of my back pocket or it makes my back sore, because I sit crooked.

2 visa cards (ah, credit), ATM card (I hate ATM fees), library card (did I mention that Boulder has an awesome library system), emergency road card (I paid for this last time, but now my insurance company gives me one for free), my driver's license, my grandmother's driver's license (I was going to say that she passed away recently, but I guess it is not so recently anymore), a picture of my s.o. (she is even prettier now), midwife's contact info (yay midwives!), picture of Ganesh that LT gave me (who has definitely brought me good luck, so I recommend that you get LT to send you one as well), a triple folded list of the books I want to read and movies I want to see (along with author / director and year of publication / release), vehicle insurance card, a US calling card, an Australian calling card (the US calling card people say their card works in Oz, but it doesn't really), tiny pieces of paper with names and phone numbers scribbled all over them, a blank piece of paper (I think it used to have something on it), a grocery list (zucchini, frozen corn, mustard seed, coriander seed, turmeric, chocolate soy milk, decaf. coffee, firewood, bagels), an ATM receipt, and $26.50 in cash (a twenty, six ones, and two quarters - I had a US two dollar bill once, but they are really rare. I don't know why).

Just a few hours ago I had $400 in cash because I bought a sofa from someone on craigslist and I didn't think they'd appreciate a check. This is the first sofa that I've ever bought, and I only bought it because my mother is coming to visit her new grandson and she wouldn't be comfortable sitting on the floor.

BJ's membership
1 Mastercard
corporate AmEx card
CostCo membership
credit union debit card (that I've lost my PIN for)
business card from my mechanic
insurance agent's business card
Crescent Moon frequent diner card
Home Depot gift card with about $50 on it
Breeze (Atlanta transit) card
corporate phone card
biz card from friend who works at the Georgia Aquarium
biz card from moonbird
my medical insurance and prescription cards
a Boston Public Library card that I had to get once so I could check my email
biz card from my friend who works for the GBI
ACLU card
my birth certificate (small laminated card)
small stack of my own business cards
some random receipts I should sort through and see if I still need them

OK, I guess that's pretty crowded after all.
