An Interesting contradiction: One the one hand, pharmacists who refuse to hand out contraceptive meds; one the other hand, cabbies who refuse to transport alcohol or dogs.[More:]The outcome shall be interesting. I daresay you can't allow one without the other, and vice versa. One has had support in the offices of government; you can be damn sure the other is anathema to politicians.
My opinion is that if your religion dictates that you cannot perform a part of your job, you should select a different job.

Personally, my religion disallows working Monday-Wednesday and Friday-Saturday; I also cannot work after the sun reaches its zenith on Thursdays. However, my religion also specifies that anything less than full-time pay is sinful. I have a number of lawsuits pending over employers who have discriminated against me because of my religion. Assholes.

That would be the airport's fault for not allowing the colour coded cab system.

although the colour coded cab might increase discrimination against Muslims by boosting their visibility..

all in all, something for internal debate, not a bunch of sensationalist press stories.

Hmmm - I wonder if there is a difference between health care and CATCHING A TAXI.

Oh yes, right. There is.

I'm in the camp of if normal parts of your job conflict with your religion, find another line of work. It's not that simple in practice, of course, but fuck.

Rather than a color-coded taxi system, the airport could have an attendant at the taxi stand that could call down to the taxi holding area to get a driver that would take the fare. Not based on religion, but based on preferences the cabbie submits. After all, there are probably varying degrees of Muslim religious rules adherence out there. Not all Muslims will turn down a fare because there's a case of wine in the trunk or a seeing eye dog. And there are non-Muslims that might be allergic to dogs that wouldn't want the dog in the car either.

And taz, please send me some literature about your religion. I am a lost heathen that needs to find a path, and your faith sounds interesting.

I just want to change that a wee bit:

My opinion is that if your __________ dictates that you cannot perform a part of your job, you should select a different job.
