I'm beginning to think there's a house like this with cats in my neighborhood. Everytime I go out, I see new and different cats that I thought were strays- I swear there are at least 8. But I noticed today they were all standing outside one particular house that is always putting food outside for them.
You should keep an eye on that place, TPS, and call the ASPCA if you really think they're keeping too many cats. (I'm not sure what the legal limit on cats/dogs is in NYC, but I know there is one.)
Animal hoarding is a kind of mental illness, and the people who do it won't change their ways unless someone steps in to help them AND the animals.
I have been keeping an eye on the place- until today, I thought there were only 3-5 cats, but I definitely saw cats today I've never seen before. I'm not sure if these cats belong to this house, or if they just feed any cat that wants to eat- the outside of the house is totally literred with old plates, cat food tins, etc. It's gross. They come into my backyard, too; Twinkie enjoys chasing them.
The news blurb accompanying the first pic is awful:
"By Police Commander Chris Skinner's best guess, there are over a hundred and 150 rabbits in a storage facility in Hillsboro. In October, police seized them as evidence in one of the worst animal neglect cases in the town's history."
a hundred and 150 rabbits?
And if you decipher the rest of the story from other blurbs, apparently the 150 bunnies were seized in October and put in a more humane "storage facility" (bad choice of words), then the original owner broke in to steal them back, taking over 130 of them and killing two. The Rabbitlady was caught fuzzy-handed and is now in jail, where she apparently belonged in the first place.
As for the rabbits, police started with 158 but there's no telling how many they'll end up with -- especially after Sakewitz mingled the animals again.
"You see where I am going with this?" Skinner said.
Somewhere in the articles they mention that they're actually up to about 210 bunnies and are going to have an "adoption event".
