I knew Artie, a very sweet and funny and brave man. I miss him already.

when i lived in dc i worked in the same building (2000 penn), that he had an office in (in fact, he rented office space from the law firm i was working at), and i would bump into him in the elevator on occasion. i think he ended up getting into some dispute with the law firm over rent, and he abandoned the place - but not before he (or someone) knocked over every piece of furniture and equipment in the office.

i was torn by that, thinking "all right! damn the man! you go, boy!" while at the same time thinking "geez, what a jerk, leaving this office this way, and now i gotta help clean it up..."

and that's really all i ever knew about art buchwald.
