I want a kiln so I can make cool plates. She gets to rummage about thrift shops for cool old ceramics and then she gets to paint things on them and sell them. I want to do that!
Just in time for Presidents Day! And you thought you wouldn't be able to find the perfect gift...

What a great idea... those are TOO cool!!

Also, see this plate? That's our plates, minus the cool paint job. They belonged to my partner's family when he was a kid.

So excellent; I especially love the ones that leave a bit of the original pattern underneath. You really do need a kiln, ico.

I'm seriously considering it, taz. I have the perfect place for it.

Now we need someone with a foundry...

Absolutely do it; it would be brilliant. I bet you could think of a ton of different things to use it for.

I've always wanted a kiln....like, forever! And I just found one for 150.00 on craigslist, right near me. With all the accessories...

Hmmmm. Decisions!

Do it!!! I wanna see what awesomeness rises from the mind of iconomy.

So do I. Also, we need new plates (see above) and I'd jump on the chance to buy iconomy originals.

I helped buy a kiln for my dad. Keep in mind that your household electric system probably can't handle the load, and you'll need ventilation, unless you keep the unit in a garage or something similar (but then you'll get soot all over your car). My dad's kiln cost about $2000, with another $2000 installation on top of that. But,yeah, it was a neat thing for him to have. After he died, we gave it to a community arts program. They were happy.

Oh man, I want one too now. I have too many interests.

grumbles and goes back to making sawdust...

iconomy, have you ever used that etching stuff for glass?

eekacat: what are you making?

sawdust and splinters mostly, auntbunny.

When I accomplish something I'll post it here, I just wouldn't watch this space too closely, I work mightily slowly

I've got an electric kiln. I'd been planning to convert it for casting aluminum if I ever get my shop set up. Maybe I should reconsider.

Wha wha what?! A kiln for $150? I must find one of my own!

Oh, man. Get the kiln. Get an electrician to set it up for you.

Then... make me something! Me!
