So I'm going to submit an entry to Kerrville's New Folk competition... [More:]...and I'm taking suggestions. You get to submit two songs. The only recorded material I have are the tracks from the RPM project last year. I know some of you have heard the CD -- which would you recommend? I have my favorite tracks, but I'm personally biased, and my personal picks may not be the best choices.

If you want to hear the songs, you can stream the CD here.

I'm not really in it to win (I mean, look at the heavy hitters who have been finalists in the past! Not my league.), but this is one of those things I always promised myself I'd do. Kerrville is legendary. Anyway, they have the competition every year, and it wouldn't be bad to get into the habit of entering, in case miracles happen and I get to devote more time to music later on.
What about "Rattlesnake?" Not my favorites off that album, but it has an interesting theme and I like your guitar work on it.

(My favorite song is "How it's Done")

I don't know enough about folk to make any recommendations for you, but I just wanted to speak up and say, "GO MIKO!"

Kerville would be groovy to go to, let alone perform at. Good luck!

I'm voting for "Trail's End" - and I think that's mr. taz's fave as well, but I'll ask him to listen again the next time we talk. This is very exciting, Miko!

I am posting now to say "Go, Miko!" and I will post later, after listening to the stream, with more nuanced and informed opinions.

But I do feel that "Go, Miko!" is a message that just can't wait. :)

I just finished listening to the stream, Miko. My vote is for How It's Done and Trail's End.

It's the first time I've taken the time to listen to your music and I have to say - wow. I'm very impressed!

What a so very pretty album.

I think my vote would be "Rattlesnake" and "End of the Run." Mainly because I tend to focus mainly on lyrics, and clever turns of phrase, and there's something about those two in which the lyrics and your phrasing and the music all work together really well, and in a slightly unexpected way that kept me listening really closely. Both also seem to have the optimistic bittersweet nostalgia that I tend to like most in folk music.

I think they're also different enough to be good together, but I'm not always good at that sort of thing.

I also like "Trail's End" a lot, and that could probably work with either "End of the Run" or "Rattlesnake," too.
