Shiny cars in Detroit... This will be my fifth year photographing the auto show in Detroit. I'll be there Wednesday when the floor opens, unless we get another ice storm.

I'm not clued into the car scene, so if you knows what's worth shooting this year (besides the reanimated Camaro), drop a comment. Is Chery or Geely on the floor anywhere? The cars least likely to appear in Road and Track tend to make the best photos.
Hm...

Mazda has some cool concept cars in line:

And ford has a new mustang too... (no linky, i only saw a photo some time ago)

If ASC has a booth, take a few pics; I'd kind of like to see what they're doing these days. I used to work for them. (I worked on the Mitsubishi 3000GT Spyder, among other things.) They did the design of the Chevy SSR.

So is it just US cars? Any chance that Lotus will have a booth?

ASC usually has something on the lower level. I think they're one of the companies that puts immense barrier space between the cars and the public (Ford's Aston Martin booth is another, although that one's intended to allow hundreds of people to gawk at the half-dozen allowed in at a time) so it's impossible to get a decent angle on anything. ...and did ASC write their own Wikipedia entry?

The show is dominated by GM, Ford and Chrysler, but all the major brands exhibit if they sell in the US. Leading to some awkward bits, such as GM's perennial song-and-dance multimedia about their clean-air programs, which shows their only non-hypothetical reduced emission consumer vehicles are available in Europe, not here.

I'd suggest Chrysler's mini van. Yep, with the swiveling chairs and table. A hit. Just great for making your kids do homework on the way to the beach.

Any Smart cars¿ C'mon...they are seriously small.

Hell with the Camaro, I prefer the Charger & Challenger¿ I'm confused. Dodge, I believe.

Ask if the Super Bee will be produced next. Heh.

The Smart Cars were given a premium show location two years ago, shortly before Chrysler switched up and declared they weren't importing them after all, except that now they are again. No idea if there are any on display this year.

I've seen one or two Smart Cars here, although I don't know if those were purchased through Chrysler's channels, are company demo cars, or are review vehicles -- this town hosts the general HQs of most of the major auto magazines, but also is home to serious early-adopter types who buy their own.

And I guess I sound disingenuous by saying I'm not clued into the car scene. Well, I'm not, really. This is the first I'd heard mention of the Charger.

5th year. Good for you./ And not a car buff, too funny.

I'm just mildly interested.

The Charger is on the streets already, but the Challenger isn't. So shoot it.

New Mustang¿ How can you lose¿
Camaro, ditto.

Plenty of Smart cars here in Toronto. What a sight. A friend of mine ]an early adopter[ has one. Haven't driven it though.

FWIW, some headlines local paper in Toronto from the Detroit show.
