News update: Assholes in Congress Replaced by Other Assholes So voters managed to squeak out this slimmest imaginable majority for the party marginally less responsible for fucking things up. What's the first thing this new Congress gets busy on? Fixing the Patriot Act? Investigating war profiteering? Establishing uniform verifiable voting standards? Nuh uh. Once again, they have met the enemy and he is us.
Uh, the first thing the new Congress got busy on was raising the minimum wage for the first time in 10 years. Let's put things in a little perspective, here.

More to the point, Senator Feinstein took her seat in 1992. She isn't part of a "new" anything.

Well, except for the whole not getting fooled again part.

eamon, fair point on #1, but 'first thing' was essentially rhetoric, it's certainly early enough in the session to be notable. As for #2, no she herself is not new, but the new Congress is presumably relevant to the fact that they've reintroduced it so quickly after it went down to defeat last year.

And it will, presumably, go down to defeat again this year.

i'm not surprised that fienstein was the one to reintroduce it. i mean, she just got re-elected, thanks in large part to support from california's entertainment industry, and she needs to hold up her end of the quid pro quo...

expect more of this kind of noise from her for years to come.

Every member of Congress is permitted to "introduce" a bill at any time. This one was introduced by Feinstein.

At last count (and that could actually change, this session), there are 534 other members of Congress.

Now, if it gets out of committee and the entire House votes on it, then maybe you've got a point.
