That's a fantastic photo! The way there's nothing around it...wow. What a history that building has...

I noticed that, too... so much sky! And openness!

The building is beautiful, too.

Is the building still there?

It's still there, essexjan.
It's a pretty famous NYC landmark, noted for (among other things) being the location for Rosemary's Baby, the residence of John and Yoko and many other famous people, and most famously, the place where John Lennon was murdered.

Great picture, btw.

Yeah, essexjan, and it's a big tourist attraction -- because of Lennon's murder, unfortunately. Yoko still lives there. (I know I couldn't have.) Here's a Flickr.

If you want to cleanse yourself after gawking (and you know you will, right?) you can cross the street and sit in Strawberry Fields in Central Park.

As a memorial, it's fantastic, because it's true to the space. That is, the entire intent is to create a sanctuary within an already-bucolic park, steps from the busy Central Park West artery, that people can enjoy today exactly the way that John himself did.

Imagine if there were a statue of him there. *shakes head*

It's also supposed to be haunted. One former resident claimed that whilst outside looking up at his apartment, he could see a chandelier. Only problem was that he didn't have a chandelier. It's such a gorgeous building, even now.
