AskDrMeCha Update Thanks to all the bunnies who helped me laugh away the tension when contemplating the cause of my recent 50 (!) day illness. The results are in...[More:]...and you were all wrong! It was the bacteria that causes ulcers plus an ovarian cyst.

So I have to take a total of 80 pills over the next ten days to kill off the tummy bacteria, but then my stomach should stop hurting all the time. I thought it just hurt so much because I was such a stress case.

As for the ovarian cyst, didn't BtGoG just have surgery for that? The CT scan showed that it was about 6cm long, about the length of an index finger. But my doc is suspicious of that based on feel, so he's scheduled me for a pelvic ultrasound.

Thanks again for caring about a new bunny!
Glad you have a diagnosis, Twiggy! Always better than wondering and worrying.

My wife had several (benign) ovarian cysts. Eventually, they may "pop" and are absorbed back into your system. As long as they're benign, that the end of them. In my wife's case, they recurred several times. She eventually had a hysterectomy (not really because of the cysts, but they helped make the decision easier) and she has no ill effects at this point. (She carried two successful pregnancies in spite of the cysts; the were something that came up occasionally over probably a 10-15 year period.)

Not sure if that's what you want to hear, but that's what happened in my wife's case. On the negative side, they were a pain (literally) when they occurred, but on the plus side, they did not affect her ability to conceive and bear children.

The problem even with benign ovarian cysts is that sometimes they can twist and cut off blood supply to the ovary, and then the ovary can start to die. So it's not necessarily just a matter of waiting for them to burst (which can be incredibly painful).

I'm in the process of scheduling surgery for mine. MeCha = ovarian cyst central at the moment. argh.

Glad you finally got some answers, Twiggy and I wish you a speedy recovery.

I've got the cysty ovaries, too. They turn up now and then. Last year I had an enormous, solid one that freaked out my doctor enough that I had to have regular MRIs to track it for 6 months or so. BCPs shrunk it down a little bit, so they declared it an endometrioma (chocolate cyst) and send me on my way. Shortly thereafter, I got knocked up.

When I went in for my fetal ultrasound, I warned the doc that I had a big honkin' cyst on my right ovary. He informed me that it was nothing compared to the one I am apparently now sporting on my left ovary.

Crazy ass cysts!! Leave the Mecha lady bits alone!

Glad you've got a diagnosis and a treatment plan, Twiggy. At least there's an end in sight and treatments that can help. Whew! Also, thanks for the update.

Twiggy, I also have suffered from ulcers and ovarian cysts -- at the same time. It's miserable, and I empathize.

I just had a cyst burst last week. It's been making me crazy. But it's only the second time I've ever had this happen, and the doctor seemed to think the ruptured cyst thing was just ... you know ... sort of normal.

Hope yours turns out to be nothing to worry overmuch about. And have fun with those antibiotics!

ah, you're afflicted with the infamous H.pylori, eh? Glad to know you have a diagnosis and that it's easlily treated.

There's several kinds of ovarian cysts, and not all of them just pop. Thankfully I have only had the kind that do.

What the gibbering heck is it with Ovarian Cysts and she-bunnies this year??

Good luck with your cysts, everybody!

Fun story: I named my cyst Tony Blair, for the obvious reason that it was coming out.

No kidding! I'm sure glad all my girly parts seem to be healthy and in working order. I just wish menopause would hurry the hell up.

I did have a cyst, too. Wow, I had no idea how common they are. Mine "resolved" itself. Of course, I had to go through a MRI and an ultrasound to find that out.

Thanks for the whuffles and the sympathy. It's not a misery loves company thing, but I do feel better knowing how common this stuff is.
