Help me, crafty/tinkering bunnies! Old broken slide projector - what can I do with it?[More:]The more creative, the better. It is broken in parts and someone cut the cord off, I'm assuming so that everyone would know it was broken. I found it outside a church near my house a few months ago and dutifully lugged it home, as I must do with anything that has a lens.

I don't know how to fix the cut off cord, and even if I did, I don't think it works (the slide tray is busted). What else can I do with it, other than take it apart and see how it works (my original intent). I was thinking maybe I could do something else...but what?!

Ideas, thoughts, suggestions?
I'd use it to individually file my teeny slices of bread.

Or condoms.

i've used those bulbs fragment in thing but that's not in any way gonna help you.
It would be awesome if you could get it to work without the heat for condoms.
You could host safe sex parties.

A condom carousel.

It's not a carousel kind though, it's the other kind.

Fantastic idea otherwise.

Oh darn. I don't even know what the other kind looks like.

It's basically a box. And you put slides in it. And there's this little tray on top that you slide them in. Not cool and round.

The first lesson a good tinker learns, is that not all pots can or should be dammed.

The lamp, condenser, fan and projection lens are probably still good or reapair/replaceable as optical components. Think of something interesting to put in the stage instead of a slide. Crumpled cigarette cellophane between two polarizers, a metal cutout, textured glass, colored filters in front of the lens, broken stained glass epoxied to a piece of glass, colored liquids (as in desk toys).

I've built projectors that do all of these things. Seattle and Portland bunnies can so testify.

Heh. I saw the post and thought, "I'll suggest that she ask warbaby." Should've known. The word 'projector' is like the batsignal for you, isn't it? ;)

How do I fix the fact that it has no cord to plug it in?

SassHat - if there's any power cord left sticking out of the projector, fixing the cord would be easy peasy for any friends or bunnies with technical experience. If you lived near me, I would do it. It's just a matter of taking the severed cord end, pulling back the insulating, stripping down the wires inside, severing a new chord with a wall plug dealie, splicing the wires together, packing it back in the insulating, and wrapping the whole thing up with electrical tape. My dad taught me to do this as a teenager, after I accidentally severed the power cord on a chainsaw with the chainsaw.

Now, if there's no exposed power cord at all, it's gonna be a lot tougher.

Hehe that quote still has me giggling. Yes, muddgirl, I have seen this done before. I think I shall ask my uncle down the street for assistance, as he's good at these sorts of things.

I once did the same thing with an electric lawnmower, but that's not nearly as funny.
