I don't recall seeing one here in the 14 years I've lived here. Perhaps I wasn't paying attention. If it's not listed here, then it's probably not happening.

But seriously, no, I've never heard of their being one. For one thing, shutting down MLK would be huge pain in the ass for inner east-side traffic. No one would be able to get to the damn bridges.

Eh, no, it's usually just families and regular folks, but I've only been to parades in LA, and I've passed through and observed the one in Phoenix.

I didn't notice a lot of trustifarian socially-pseudoactive hipster action, it's usually pretty solemn.

And a parade here might be logistical difficulty or require some rerouting but it could be done, and that sacrifice and assembly is kind of the point.

(And it's not like LA or Phoenix don't have any traffic to be snarled by a huge street-closing parade, y'know. They're only the some of the most car-centric and traffic prone cities in the world.)

Anyway, I dig 'em 'cause for one it's MLK and for two, it's usually one of the few regular street "demonstrations" and peaceable assemblies in the US. It's pretty fantastic to be able to peacable march with tens or hundreds of thousands of folks of all shapes and colors. Even dorky white boys.

Probably too many people are working to try to hold a parade. Outside the government and banks, I doubt very many people get the day off.
