Robert Falcon Scott's (Scott of the Antarctic) last words "The previously unseen final letter that Captain Robert Falcon Scott wrote to his wife as he battled back from the South Pole in March 1912 was made public yesterday."[More:]Eyewitnesstohistory.com has a transcript of his journals, and the movie Scott of the Antarctic can be seen here with free and simple registration. The antarctic-circle.org site has a journal of chronologies and timelines of Antarctic exploration, in addition to just about anything you ever wanted to know about Antarctica.
Interesting. Just a few weeks ago I saw a production of the play Terra Nova, about Scott and his men.

That's pretty wild. That he could write at all in that cold is remarkable.

Somewhere in the really impressionable part of my youth, I read an account of the Scott expedition that speculated about their final days and gave me a sense of what that must have been like. That has stayed with me at a very deep level. This letter brought me back to that place. It's a sad, but holy, sort of place that makes me think about how small we really are.

I watched the linked movie Scott of the Antarctic last night after I posted this. Wow, that was some movie. What an amazing and sad story.

You have to admire Scott, but I prefer Shackleton.

I haven't seen Scott of the Antarctic, but I really recommend The Last Place on Earth, which was a PBS series based on both the Scott and Amundsen expeditions.
