Cingular? Feh. I wonder if there will be a CDMA version.
And changes UI to fit need? There was a universal remote control like that. People complain that the lack of hard buttons makes it impossible to operate the thing without looking at it--for a phone, that seems like a big deal.
WHERE'S MY LEOPARD INFORMATION?! That was the only thing I was really interested in. Dammit.
Phone: looks amazing, dumps all over the opposition, very expensive, no sign of a European deal - I'm almost certain that Cingular aren't in the UK. So: thank God they've finally announced the damn phone - maybe now people can shut the hell up about it, but I wanted Leopard stuff. Oh well.
The iPhone was a staple of the rumor mill for years. As in, 'This time The Steve will announce it, for really real!' So an actual announcement effectively blindsides everybody. Even the rumor-mongering fanboys with their mocked-up iPhones should be caught up short by this.
Not least because it's so much better in design than the wildest flight of fancy I'd seen.
And Wedge: If you'd been putting up with the awful feature implementations current mobile phones have, you'd find it tempting. And if you'd had to buy your own Treo or Blackberry lately, you wouldn't find the price disconcerting.
seanyboy - checkout the UK and US Apple Stores: the UK one doesn't even have the phone on it. The US one does and that's not shipping until June. We've got a long wait. Which is good, as I can't afford it!
The iPhone looks incredible - exactly what a phone should be (even though 8GB is a bit tight). Certainly worth considering.
And by the way guys - the engadget article said "Europe in the 4th quarter of this year, Asia in 2008". So maybe we won't have to wait too long after all.
Gah, on one had this is exactly what I've been looking for in a gadget (except for the adherence to iTunes, which I dislike on Windows), there's no way I'd use it enough to justify the price!
One thing I just thought of: that big ol' screen is going to be constantly covered in grody face oil, foundation, etc. Either that, or it's supposed to be used on speakerphone, which won't be annoying at all.
I know my tiny little cell phone screen has to be wiped off once in a while. How do other smartphone users deal with the face crud issue?

Jon Hicks has already mentioned that!
