I know! They were just discussing him on NPR. He manages to get sexier and sexier every damn year.

I'd say, "I hope I look that good at 60," but I didn't look that good, ever.

Oh, David, you pretty thing. Don't you know your driving your father and mother insane?

*puts on makeup and fishnet stockings, struts around the room*

Ahem.
Fun bit of Bowie trivia, one of his pupils is paralyzed from a schoolyard scuffle as a kid. In certain photographs it looks really freaky.

Oh, that kind of pupil. I kept thinking huh, a pupil? Did he used to be a teacher? He had pupils? So is that why his eyes are two different colors?

The more I type pupil the less it looks like a word.

He is a hottie, that's for sure. Iman and he must drink the blood of bunnies, or something.

Love his music, but I never thought he was hot. Skinny blokes don't really do it for me, I like 'em burly.

He's actually not my type, either, but he's the exception that proves the rule. Or something.
posted by BoringPostcards 08 January | 10:54
I like all kinds, I don't really have a type, but yeah, as a rule, skinny guys don't do it for me either. But I do think that Bowie and Orlando Bloom are major hotties, and they're both rails.

I like my mens with a bit o' meat on 'em too.

Bowie is one of those people that I am constantly amazed by...He and Keith Richards are two of the only "stars" that seem to realize that they are VERY LUCKY to have been able to live their lives playing music, and marrying supermodels. For that I love them.

Bowie's VH1 storytellers was great too... I had no idea he was such a raconteur.

His backing vocals on Lou Reed's Satellite of Love are some of the best EVER.

Yes, I also

Don't worry, jonmc. Bowie is a sort of supra-sexual entity, existing on an aesthetic plane different from that of normal human attractions. Just like you, kiddo.
posted by cortex 08 January | 11:19
Perhaps, cortex. But Bowie rocks the orange hair and makeup with far more aplomb.
posted by jonmc 08 January | 11:22
Uh, jon, you're sexy too. Really. Duh.
posted by iconomy 08 January | 11:27
I know. I'm goofing.

David Bowie and the rest of his cohorts in the British Glam movement did teach us all a valuable lesson: that it's possible to prance and swagger at the sametime.

I had a chance to see him in his Ziggy Stardust incarnation, in a very small venue (Santa Monica Civic) but blew it off because he was so anti-hippie.

I still sorta kick myself.
posted by danf 08 January | 12:00
yep, I adore him. And he is more of my type than I am his, really.

Back when I was at NYU, my office overlooked, well sorta, his condo in the Village. At least everyone said it was his condo. I can tell you: too. many. parties. But that's a good thing, no?
posted by carmina 08 January | 12:02
He rocks all right. I was just thinking of Labyrinth this morning, that Muppet-type movie in which he plays an evil prince.
posted by Orange Swan 08 January | 12:11
And co-stars with a young Jennifer Connelly.

Bowie's totally not my type either. My "save me from a bear attack" criterion has been well established here. But he has this otherworldly confidence that makes me think that even a bear would be so starstruck in his presence that it would cease its attack and ask for an autograph.

And, yeah, he and Iman must be into some serious voodoo. She's stunning.

the closest I could find on youtube to a comparison between early and current bowie.
God I love him.

then and now (well, 2005)

Thanks for that, kellydamnit - I love him too. This is my favorite Bowie video - he's so yummy here....

It's very Wham! ish.
posted by iconomy 08 January | 15:55
Ouch. If he is 60, that makes me *counts on fingers* ... old. God, I can't even remember when I wasn't a fan of Bowie.

I just borrowed Aladdin Sane from the local library and was playing it here at work when I saw this thread.

Bowie is my favorite musician ever. I was screaming like a pre-pubescent school girl when I got to see him in concert a few years ago.
posted by sciurus 08 January | 19:50
Didn't Jagger famously say he didn't want to be giving Bowie satisfaction when he's 60?
posted by stilicho 08 January | 21:01
So, no love for the dead Elvis, then?

Die-hard fan!--although Jared Harris did the better Warhol. FWIW danf, that concert is available on CD. One of the reasons why I want to strangle the spoiled prince upstairs is because my soundtrack of the Ziggy movie is still in storage--and I want desparately to hear that version of Width of a Circle.
