Ah, Songs Of Faith And Devotion is a great album. Much more rocky, guitars and live drums, very dark - I'm almost cetain Gahn was in his drug phase by then. Well worth checking out - I think it was the last of the really good albums; it all started to go a bit wrong after that from what I understand.
Ah, nostalgia. A few weeks ago, we were poking through the Alt-Youth-Oriented Shop o' Crap and CDs, and "Shake the Disease" came on the sound system. Immediately, I was yanked down a time tunnel to my adolescence, thinking of the hours I spent crouched all moony and gloomy in my dark room and furiously thinking that no one, ever, anywhere could possibly understand me.
And I laughed and laughed and thought how cruel it would be for me, with my soccer-mom hair and my sensible shoes, to tell any of the disaffected youth around me "Gosh, you remind me of myself at thirteen."
Thanks for the song. I was in love with Depeche Mode as a teen. I can hear myself now singing Blasphemous Rumors, or my favorite, Never Let Me Down Again. Oh, how I loved them. Hey! I think I will download some Depeche Mode now.
This IS a good song. I can't believe I hadn't heard it before. Was Violator the album before this? "Enjoy The Silence" was the last single of theirs I remember.
Elsa, sometimes when I'm walking around the house in my t-shirt, sweat shorts and house shoes (because hey, my feet get cold) I think, "My 19-year-old self would just DIE if he could see this." Heh!
BP - I'm one of those "I really like that group and should own more of their stuff, but don't" people so aren't really up on them. However, Wikipedia knows :) From memory, after SOFAD, Ultra got average reviews, Exciter got panned to high heaven and Playing The Angel, their latest album, apparently is pretty good, with Gahn writing songs with Gore for the first time ever.
They're another band who are doing the deluxe re-issue thing at the moment, so I'll have to plan my purchases carefully as I want to get a load of Cure stuff as well.
Mitheral: wow, 101 is an album I haven't heard for years but remember being blown away by it at the time. Why can't I be as rich as Bill Gates and have all the spare time in the world to just listen to music? Soooooo unfair!
