Creepy room to let ad . I'm browsing the room to let ads and I came across one "for single unattached female only". Is it me or is that rather creepy? It was in all-caps too, which didn't help.
LINK, PLEASE, K, THNX.

Ah yes, here we go: linky.

Eh, it depends who wrote the ad. It could be that it's already an all female house and they prefer to keep it that way. Or it could be a house that's primarily elderly folks who just want some extra income. Or you know, it could be a creepy guy.

True, could be females tired of living with female roommates who have their boyfriends over all the time.

And 80 pounds?! That's less than USD$200 a month!!! Can I move in there????

That's per week TPS.

Oh yes, I missed that part. Well never mind then! That's not such a bargain!

fbk has it. Usually you see these for women homeowners renting rooms or women lease-holders subletting same. (Usually.) You're in the same living space as the other people so this sort of "discrimination" is permissible and expected.

Unattached, in this context, is a lot like non-smoker or the old watchword, "Christian". (It's dubious but not actually illegal to say that in most of the US.)

I wouldn't automatically read that as creepy, in other words.

Ok, perhaps I'm being overly paranoid. Searching for housing sucks. Is it out of order to ask if anyone here's looking for a housemate in London? Male, fresh from uni and starting out on the job market.

The strangest one I've seen was a lady searching for a flatmate for her (about 19 yo) daughter, a flatmate who would "help fixing the place up". It was quite obvious that this lady was also looking for a son in law.

You saw my ad?

Actually, would it be creepy to offer reduced rent for a college kid (probably female, things being how they are) who would cook and clean for me?

if the money were commensurate, I don't see why; for a student it has a lot of benefits. But there's a good chance you are the thinking that the time involved for those things is a lot less than it actually is.

What if I ask for massages too? For "stress relief"?

I was looking for a room myself this last fall. I stopped looking when a friend who was going to Brazil for half a year allowed me to rent her room until she was abroad. Then it turned out that she wasn't leaving until the end of year. Shortly after that, I found out that I was going away myself, so...here I am.

Anyway, in all this time, I only went to see one room. The owner had offered reduced rent for a male student who would help him type his manuscripts -- he turned out to be a graphomaniac. I had to turn him down, though, because his house was so filthy that I was surprised anyone would actually want to live there (he had two tenants living there).

The last I heard of him, he was looking for a senior female tenant who would help him clean the place. Someone must have finally knocked some sense into him.

Sorry, ortho. I thought you were serious. My advice for both the housecleaning and the stress relief is that it's probably best to just go on doing it as you have been - relying on your own two hands. When you've been especially good, go ahead and give yourself a tip.
