31 December 2006

It's been one hell of a year. And you nuts have been with us through all of it. So as an end-of-year gift, here's two tunes: the first a song I've been searching for for years and just found a few weeks ago, the second a brilliant piece of mindless boogie that nobody should be without.[More:]

Graham Parker - Over The Border To America
Status Quo - Paper Plane
I LOVE Quo. Well, up until the last 20 years or so. They should've been shot for 'Margarita Time'.

About a hundred years ago I used to go to a biker club in the town where I grew up. At the first riff of 'Caroline' everyone would get on the dancefloor, two long lines facing each other, and we'd all dance the spread. Occasionally someone would lose time and there'd be a clash of heads but usually everyone was too drunk/stoned for it to make much of a difference.

Ah ... happy days.

I wouldn't have known that was Graham Parker if I had heard it otherwise.
Status Quo rocks!

Dude--one of the highlights of 2006 was my announcing that I'd be in NYC, and, oh, 20 or so strangers showing up at a bar to mark the occasion. You were there for that. That. Was. Cool.
