27 December 2006

My suitcase is packed. [More:]I head home tomorrow, after the best Christmas I've ever had. Only one thing could've made it better.

I've eaten far, far too much, laughed more than I've laughed in ages, cried a few times, met up with old friends, made some new ones and am able to zip up my suitcase without using the extra 25% expansion space (there's not a whole lot to buy in rural Ohio unless you like dressing your porch goose in little outfits).

Tomorrow will be a long day. We're leaving for Columbus at about 9.30am, doing some shopping at Easton and having lunch at the Cheesecake Factory before I check in at the airport at about 2pm. I have a 3 hour layover in Chicago (I always prefer to give myself extra time between connections in case of delays) and an overnight flight to London, landing at 9.30am London time. Then it'll be about another 2 hours before I get to my own front door.

But it's a long weekend, so I'll have a chance to get over the jetlag before work on Tuesday.

See you on Friday bunnies!
wow, you're a travelling maniac, aren't you? me so jealous. got pix? happy holidays, ej!

Oh, yeah... that's going to be a long day, for sure. And so incredibly surreal at the end when you are finally home.... that feeling that in "Pattern Recognition" is described as your soul not having yet caught up with your body as it jets across the world:

...her mortal soul is leagues behind her, being reeled in on some ghostly umbilical down the vanished wake of the plane that brought her here, hundred of thousands of feet above the Atlantic. Souls can't move that quickly, and are left behind, and must be awaited, upon arrival, like lost luggage.

And speaking of books, do you have a book for the plane? What is it?

Here's hoping, essexjan, that the New Year will bring you some new friend, worth the pain of the loss you've had, and the strength you've shown in honoring the deep connection you've felt. The George you've described, that I never knew, and his family, would, I think, wish that for you, too.

Safe travels.

There's a porch goose in my parent's neighborhood! Always dressed up for every season. My mom thinks it's so funny. Now I know where I can get her one next Christmas!

I always thought a porch goose was that happened when you least expected it while you were waiting for someone to answer the door. Live and learn.

I like the irony of putting porch geese in hunting outfits.

Glad you had a great trip, ej... Happy New Year!!! : )
