26 December 2006

If y'all don't mind... I'll leave the festive decor up one more day. Today's the day I get to stay home and celebrate with my sweetheart - cooking just for us, drinking wine and playing Trivial Pursuit. What will you be doing today?
(And if the holiday design is making you crazy, I can take it down.)

I love the holiday design.

And OMG the ornament where the yellow spot used to be is GREAT!

I like the shiny lights!

I have just strained about 5 litres of turkey soup stock ready for the freezer and I should be off to bed soon. Rosemary has to work at 4:30 AM (managers take turns covering the holidays).

I plan to try to tackle writting two white papers on Service Oriented Architecture tomorow. WooHoo!

BTW, it's only bad luck if you don't have your decorations down by New Year's.

So you can keep the cool shiny stuff for a week, if you wanna.

Keep the decorations on as long as you want, but maybe on Thursday or Friday you can turn the lights off... :)

I always thought Epiphany was the last day for decorations? Twelve days of Christmas and all that?

And I *love* the festive bunny.

Tomorrow (that is, the day after Christmas) my brother and I will be meeting my father for breakfast at my favoritest breakfast place in the city that's just far enough away that I never get there, then my brother and I will go shopping, which will be fun, then we'll go home and get purdy and meet my father again for a veeeeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrry nice dinner, on him. It's pretty much the perfect day :-)

And today was so much less stress than I was anticipating that I'm already in a good mood.

A good ol' girl from Memphis is coming for a few days visit. We're goin' to the beach, and walkin' in sand far enough to get Florida pedicures and see some ocean. If it's rainy and breezy as forecast, so much the better, as we'll be walkin' over to our favorite coffee shop in Neptune Beach, and drinkin' mocha caffes and sharin' a copy of the NYT, flown in, until it's time to come home and take a nap together.

Then, I'm makin' dinner for her and my brother, and we'll play 3 handed pinochle and listen to low down jazz music, 'til somebody gets sleepy, and we break for pie. After that, my brother will head for bed, and I'll break out the single malt, and me and the lady from Memphis will probably get quietly snockered, and ignore the silly dog.

Decorations should remain up until January 6th, which is Epiphany (and the 12th day of Christmas), when the Wise Men arrived. 12 days is a long time to stay in a manger, though, damn. I never thought of that before.

BTW, it's only bad luck if you don't have your decorations down by New Year's.

That sounds like an urban legend started by neighbors who hate decorations that are still up in Feb. Occhiblu is right (as 'right' as one can be on this subject) about Jan. 6th.

8:12 a.m. Greetings from work. We threw a surprise pajama party last night for some of our favorite people. There are some things on my camera that take a bit of explaining.

Ooooof.

If it weren't for the leftovers, I'd be dead.

Errrm. Super Bowl. Shiny stuff must be down by the Super Bowl.

I'll be working. (*cries*) Pips has the day off, but she's got laryngitis. And her mom is hard of hearing, so I spent a big chunk of yesterday making like a carrier pigeon between them. Also the backing of one of my earrings fell out as I was adjusting it and I couldn't find it, so I took them out. I feel naked.

There's a pile of bad CD's staring at me. Eh, I'll buy a new pair on the way home and pips is making me a nice brisket.

I haven't gone in to work yet, but I will be. Only for a couple of hours though. Then I will play bridge in a tournament.

Working. Thanks Santa.

I am at werk too! I am loving it. Props 2-3 of us here, on other floors. I might actually get werk done. I am so happy that the first part of the holidays is over. I am a grinch, yes. Someone's gotta be and I am perfect for this.
posted by carmina 26 December | 10:54
Actually, just about half of the staff didn't show up today icluding most of the supervisors. I may have to be here, but there's no law that says I have to get anything done. Maybe I'll sneak out early. Maybe I'll work sans shoes. Maybe I'll work sans pants.

...and pips is making me a nice brisket.

Yes, tonight it's brisket and latkes. A little post-Christmas (belated) Chanukah nosh. Christmas Eve and Day were quite lovely, as usual, with my hubby's family. Jon's family even had a belated Vegas-style wedding cake for us on Christmas Eve, complete with candy chips and dice.

Today it's all about rest and recuperation, trying to shake this miserable cold of mine and catching up with my soap (one of my favorite characters, Buzz, just proposed!). It's good to have this week off; I was feelin' pretty crispy. Wish the honey was here (sorry 'bout your earring, love).

Nice to have extra bunny time, too. Happy holidays, all.

(On preview: sans pants? Just make sure Urinal Talker's not around ; )

Back to work today. Working from home, as always, can't complain a'tall. All the hairy beasts are sleeping happily, I'm meeting mrs chewy for lunch. It feels more like an extended thanksgiving this year than xmas. Just bein' happy with what I have since there's a lot who don't. I got an ipod shuffle from santa! We spent the day with football, naps, a standing rib roast (YUM) and generally not doing a damn thing.

I totally dig the bunny taz. As usual a fabulous job. Kick trivial pursuit ass.

Amazingly, they gave us the day off at the Legislature. I'm just hanging around the house. I'm going to make pizza for dinner. Also, I got the complete New Yorker cd-rom thing for Christmas, so I've got a LOT of reading to do.

(decorations are awesome, by the by, taz... quite the festive zombie bunny head!)

The Christmas cold fairy visited our house, so I'm taking it very easy today but it's just a sore throat & the sniffles. Actually it's so nice to be mellow after the frantic activity of the last few days, ahhhhhhh. . .

Daughter went to work, son gone shooting with his dad, me in front of computer trying to get up the energy to crawl to the gym to work off that big hunk of chocolate cake I had for breakfast. And other daughter off gestating somewhere while her husband does chores for his mama.

My son and I sat up watching Monty Python and the Holy Grail last night and laughed our hinies off. He's the perfect person to watch stuff like that with.

I love the festive bunny, taz. The kid does too. She gets so excited when he changes.

My uncle's having a bunch of people over for a bonfire in which he'll burn all the branches that came down in the last few storms. Apart from that, I'm probably going to clean up from the yummy roast duck I made myself last night, finish setting the place up, and maybe sit around watching Deadwood on dvd and eating booze-filled chocolates. I've got a cord of wood to stack, but meh, it's got a tarp over it and will wait 'til tomorrow.

Jesus H. Christ on a pogo stick. I just woke up.

So apparently, the answer to "what will you be doing today" is "sleeping."

I adore the lights. Can you keep them up all year 'round?

We got up ultra early to go to the mall in Tampa and do returns, which we did. My sister, Styxn and I ate Chick-Fil-A chicken breakfast sandwiches, and then we shuttled her off to the airport. We both gave blood for the Metafilter Boxing Day "meetup", and now we're at home laying around, waiting for later tonight when we have mongolian bbq with my cousins. Yaaay!

Plus, it's our 7th month anniversary! Huzzah!

The kids lazed around all day, so I booked out to a store by myself (hubby was working). Cleaned piles of stuff I've been meaning to get to, and generally had a great day. Went too fast, though. Back to work tomorrow.

I drove back from my parents' house to find that no, my cat can not survive a night alone without pooping in the tub.

I have also cleaned my tub in preparations for bathing in it at some point.

It's already the 27th over here, so I can only tell you what I did "today": spent the whole day basically lazying around. Played Bismarck with my family and won; read Fontanka 16.

And now, I'm already at work, waiting for the clock on the wall to hit 9 before I actually start working (got here about half an hour early). The day will probably be pretty quiet...

Okay... one more day. I'm personally still in the holiday spirit since I'm ordering gift books from Amazon today, I have yummy leftovers, so no cooking - and it's still a bit too early for me to get into a stress tizzy about New Year's. Aaaaaah! *kicks back with a glass of wine*
