24 December 2006

I cried yesterday. [More:]I'm up in Columbus with Marie, George's other sister, for a couple of days (yay, fast internet!) and yesterday we went to a friend of hers for a cookie-baking party.

It was wonderful. There was the grandma, some of her daughters and daughters-in-law (she has 9 kids), grandchildren and me. The guys watched sport and the younger kids played with the dogs.

We baked cookies (I made mint-chocolate ones, mmmmm) and made buckeyes and snickerdodles. The grandma asked me if we did this at home. That was when I cried. We never did anything like that when I was a kid. My dad drank. There were no 'family traditions' at Christmas, apart from 'try not to upset dad'. No-one visited, no-one invited us anywhere.

So for me to be involved in this, my first ever family Christmas, is the most wonderful gift I could have.

I am blessed.

Bless you, Jan. I'm starting Christmas all over again, because my son is now old enough to understand. We just put out cookies and milk for Santa.

Merry Christmas, Jan!

We don't know each other at all, but I have the illusion that I know you, because your writing here is as clear and open as the peal of a bell. And I earnestly wish you the happiest of holidays.

Happy Christmas, Jan! It's never too late to start a tradition, so let this be the beginning of something to remember.

((((EJ)))) Enjoy the season, Jan - so glad there is a fun one in your life now. We have a pile of wrapped goodies on our kitchen table. We opted out of the tree this year (sorry ico!), but the pooches & cats know something's up. One of the neighbors gave them edible greeting cards!

Aw Jan. I am so happy that George's family is taking such good care of you. I bet he would be just thrilled that you're all together. You deserve to be happy at Christmas (and always).

Sounds like you had a great day; it must be incredibly heart warming to be embraced so lovingly. I hope the rest of your time over there is equally happy :)

What a wonderful Christmas, Jan. It's never too late to start traditions, you know. I hope all your Christmases from now on will be just as joyous or even better.

What three musicians would you get in the same room? || I just got an Amazon gift certificate for Christmas.
