A Revolution in Music Norway, land of oil and great living, succeeds at music (finally!). No danseband or Norwegian spoken here. Instead bands like (linkies are yousendit mp3s) Madrugata, Pogo Pops, Minor Majority, Ane Brun,120 Days and many more are redefining an artistic movement in one of the last bastions that have the moniker of stale. Influences include Radiohead, DMB, Ani Difranco etc... God Jul til alt!
Oh I forgot to add - Danseband is something compared to swing according to the norsk wiki, but in all honesty, it's more like that hotel band you never wanted to see but still found at a bad wedding and ended up dancing to after many watered down rum and cokes.

Always been a fan of the 80's/90's pop group A-ha and the solo career of lead singer Morten Harket.

Ane Brun is cool - she's got a "live with orchestra" album due out in Feb that I'm just about to pre-order. A-Ha are still good - their recent albums are good but each one has 2 or 3 absolutely killer tracks on them. Oh, and isn't it Madrugada and not Madrugata? Their earlier stuff is, IMHO, far better than their recent. Their "The Nightly Disease" album is so hard to find, I ended up having to get it ordered from some second-hand shop in Sweden. Yay for Gemm!

Don, it is Madrugada :P That's what I get for posting on the last friday before christmas...And I agree with you, the earlier stuff is much better.

Ane Brun is one of my favourites. If I could get Ane Brun, Ani Difranco, Sophie Zelmani in the same room playing music together - it would be heaven.

I discovered Madrugada after waking up, drunk, in front of MTV2 at some unearthly time of the morning. They were playing the Majesty video and I had a blind panic to a: focus my eyes on the screen to get the band's name b: grab a pen+paper as they don't have the easiest name to remember when drunk.

Sophie Zelmani sounds like she might be cool but, sigh, six albums out and finances are going to be tight next year unless I get a decent pay rise. Also, every audio link on her site is borked and her MySpace page is buffering like I'm on dialup. I will persevere.

Your last sentence would make a good post: "what 3 people would you want to hear playing music together". God's/Satan's Power Trio!
